Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I love my 996 but I really miss the steering feel of my 78sc, while I know I will never achieve the same amount of steering feel due to many evolutionary changes, I was wondering if you guys know any modifications or tips to increase steering feel? By the way I have a 996 c2 2003 with stock 18" wheels and lowered on h&r springs.

I have never heard of that being done, there are probably reasons for that. Haha

POST 4Original post

I bet it is possible. Probably not direct bolt in??

Obviously not. And with the width of a 996 front tire a manual rack would be killer while parking a 996. I am not looking to do something that has never been done and that would require fabrication

POST 6Original post

What is missing with the 996? My lowered, adjustable setup transmits everything I need and more through the wheel. On the backcountry tour SD region did today, I could feel the gravel through the wheel on some of the dirtier corners. Check and make sure everything is dialed in. Make sure the bushings aren't dried out and sloppy. My combo of 19" wheels with appropriately low-profile tires may be a bit too bouncy, but nothing is lost due to spongy sidewalks or squirmy tread. What tires are you running, and at what pressure? A chunky all-season tire can numb the most awesome setup... Hopefully your issue can be solved...and on the cheap.

POST 7Original post

The mist noticeable improvements will come by changing bushings and some suspension components like inner and outer tie rods, sway bar bushings, sway bar links

This plus more aggressive alignment and tires.

POST 10Original post

Outside of a new steering rack; coilovers with solid top mounts, larger sway bars with polyurethane mounts, front wheel spacers and sticky tires. 996C2 with coilovers and turbo wheels/15mm spacers has the best turn in feel of any car I've driven.
