On the under hood sticker I understand what everything means except for one set of numbers. Under the VIN is the type. I understand the 996 but after that there are three numbers. On mine it is 410. I have seen many different numbers after the 996 including 110, 211, 420, 310, etc. My car is a 1999 C4 Tip and I have a theory that the 4 has something to do with the AWD aspect, but that does not explain the cars with a 1 or a 3. I also had initially hoped that the 410 was for the 993 18" hollow spokes but that would have been listed under the options section. Thank you for sharing the knowledge.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

@DBJoe996 I think if it was option 410 it would be under the options list and not next to the type. Your thought was one that I had hoped for but when looking at the other numbers that come after other cars type section I don't see a 110 or 310 that would make similar sense.

Yeah, mine shows 996 120 and that doesn't appear as an option code for 996 that I can find. Also, 410 is turbo twist wheels on 997's, but appears to be Sport Seats on 996's (at least on late 996's). Curious as well. Mine's a 40AE, if that makes any difference.
Wild guess, its the base chassis order number for manufacturing. Just based on the manufacturing systems I've worked with, Basically if it follows what I've seen, every color of every model has a starting number, that gets all the options layered over it. Usually its arbitrary, as models are established they add numbers,, so all Silver coups with AWD would start with a similar number, Silver Verts a different one, etc. 2wd/engine packages etc.. If you look at a window sticker youll find sub packages that are not charged extra they get included.. Probably some bean counters dream of managing production..

That would be my guess as well. In my companys manufacturing system, it is like that. There are chassis/engine combinations (maybe 7 or so per model), then we layer (and restrict) options and colors to make the total production variation amount (from 10,000 to millions depending on the model).
Porsche 996 The Essential Companion has the list 34 different combinations.
