Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, So, I have started to get the top working, much with help of this wonderful forum. I sorted the fluid level, diagnosed a leaking right hydraulic cylinder, and two broken brackets to the rearmost part of the top. Because of the last problem, which I believe was the first one, I figure the top has not been exercised in a few years, which has caused the leaks and other problems. Anyway, now most of the parts are sourced and in working order. Then, all of a sudden, I got a new problem: the forward top latch is not closing! Or, to be more precise, it locks the top, but something goes wrong, making it unlatch, then latch again, unlatch, latch again, 2-25 times untilit actually stops. The problem with this is that I wont get the rear power windows up until it is properly closed. I am guessin the microswitch is the problem, or that the hatch is too worn to reavh high enough for e microswitch to close. So, how do I diagnose this? Anyone that had the same problem? Regards, Johan

If you stick your finger in the hole where the latch mechanism engages, you should be able to actuate the microswitch that indicates the top is closed. With this microswitch held down, you should now be able to manually raise the rear power windows via the center console switches. This should help you diagnose weather it's a microswitch problem.

There is a plastic piece on the latch hook that contacts the switch. Yours is probably missing or broken. Look at this thread on Renntech.org there is a drawing of the hook and part numbers http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...l__convertible
