So I have a real question for once. I have a 997 cab and a 996 top from my 996. The 996 has the pointed mounts from 99, not the updated after 2004. I can buy the mounts for my top easily enough for less than $300. To get the newer mounts for the car and the new posts for the top is close to $1000. And I could not find the answer with a search - why did they update the mounting mechanism? Is it worth the extra $600?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Old style was prone to rattles, hence the upgrade by Porsche. My cab had the receptable for the old style mount so I bought a hardtop (could not pass up a local deal for a matching, great condition top with cover and stand for under $500) which also had the matching old style pin. Luckily for me, no rattles.
