Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm planning to paint the horseshoe around the center vent which looks easy but has anyone successfully painted the surrounds on the driver and passenger vents? I removed both vents this weekend and the vent assembly is plastic welded into the surround and the slats are also attached to the surround which makes it almost impossible to paint the surround without getting paint on the slats. Has anyone done this successfully and what steps did you take?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I watched the video but looks like you painted the "horseshoe", surround around the center vent (red box). I'm looking to paint the surround around the passenger and driver side vent (green boxes).

POST 4Original post

Nice video. Where's the part where you do the side vents? Thanks.

POST 5Original post

I started to do this and was able to get the thing apart and remove the slats by bending them. However, I couldn't put the slats back in without scratching up what I had already painted. I concluded that the slats needed to be individually masked off. I lost interest at this point and soon after sold the car.

Yes, I came to the same conclusion that I'll have to tape it off individually.
