Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

<cross posting from Facebook group> I just installed an android auto head unit on my 2003 996, the search results I could find said it was impossible for the late 996's with the fiber optic factory amp, but I guess I like a challenge Once I found a link to the right MOST adapter to hook up to the fiber optic outputs in the factory Bose amp, together with the crutchfield install kit, it was a surprisingly straightforward install, just had to connect three wires to the factory harness, setup the antenna adapter, and connect power/acc/ground. The unit works great, I 3D printed some installation adapters to position it so it doesn't block the shifter and sits below the climate controls, so it only blocks the cd holders (no loss) and partially obscures the wiper intermittent speed control (worth the tradeoff). All in cost < $500. The face is adjustable, so I can raise it up a bit more if I want, but I find the volume **** sits at the perfect height to operate without taking my hand off the shift lever It looks almost comically large, but easy to revert back to stock for the purist's out there (no wires had to be cut). Curious to see what other folks have had done. The last thing I need to figure out is whether there is a dimmer output wired to the radio anywhere, so I can dim it when the lights go on. Parts list below if anyone wants to do something similar, I have on my todo to revamp the 3d printed mounts to be more like a standard rectangular install kit instead of the "shims" I have now, but this has been working so well that I haven't been compelled to do so yet.
