Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'd like to get rid of the silly Double DIN in my 996. Anyone that has done the conversion still have the single DIN parts? I need to know what I need to return the head unit and AC where it belongs. Also if you'd like to unload those parts let me know. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I received the old single DIN parts from the PO when I bought my 996. I can look and see if I can come up with some part numbers. I’ve considered going back to the factory radio, or no radio all, and doing a GT3 console delete.

POST 4Original post

Hi there - what year is your 996? I have the original CDR-220 radio and amp from my 2001 C2 Cab. I had to cut the plastic dash trim piece with a dremel to mount the double-DIN and my cup holders were broken so can't help you with any of the dash pieces. I had the 490 Hifi sound option on my car, which is a pre-MOST set up. Do you still have the original amp and speakers in your car?

POST 5Original post

993.645.173.00 is the part number. I found one on eBay when I got rid of my Navigation and went with the GT3 delete. DC Automotive also has it for sale used.

Awesome, thanks all. I'm going back to single DIN (most likely this: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-vdo-part...7412ub-or~con/ ) and GT3 delete. Car is an 02 btw.

The new radio will come with a chassis (993.645.173.00). After watching a tutorial on CAI, I think I need the metal bracket in the dash and the plastic trim piece. I did however find these two parts with the original radio. HVAC brackets.

POST 8Original post

Those HVAC brackets, a cubby, the original radio, and a cassette holder seem to be all I have from my car‘s 1-DIN days. The rest of the stuff appears to be from the Kenwood Radio that’s currently installed.
