I see the porsche 997.2 engine, codename 9A1, is pretty cheap. seems like you can buy one between $15k to $19k. I figured it would be a great engine swap, more power in 3.8 version, but I don't see anybody mentioning anything about it ? I see that some cayman owner retrofit the boxster dci engine for the carrera 3.8 engine, but no mention of older engine retrofit to 9A1 anybody know anything about this ? I just think it would make a lot of financial sense. Better fit than the LS1 in my opinion.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

But why not just trade the 996 roller for a 997 roller (plus cash) and then put a used 997 engine in it? Much less headache converting...
good point but I love my 996 that much lol
Then you should go the JR engine route
I'm sure it's possible if you're willing to spend the money. My guess is that it would be cost prohibitive to do this installation...
In a few years people with 9a1s will be looking to fit M96 engines to their cars. That said, nothing is the same between the two, it would be easier to fit a V8 to a 996 and it would have less head aches.
^^^^ i told you guys our cars are gona go up in value ( well at least the engines).
It would be far easier to do a SBC swap. All of the parts are available to fit one, and you can buy a standalone ECU package designed for engine swaps. The hard part isn't the mechanical bits, it's getting all of the computers to communicate correctly. Because the cars are so heavily networked, without a lot of ECU work it probably wouldn't even run.
