Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In searching that phrase, I find nothing. Has anyone DIY'd a remote release for the frunk?

POST 2Original post

I don't quite follow....something other than what's on the key fob?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My '99 key fob does not allow me to unlatch the frunk. Perhaps that functionality was added in later years?

POST 4Original post

I believe the frunk release on a 99 is purely mechanical i.e.: cable pull actuated. I haven't seem a mod to switch to electrical which would be necessary for remote function. It would be "involved".

Wow, I didn't know that. Learn something new every day.

POST 7Original post

I love my good ole fashion cable actuator. After reading many threads about "my battery is dead and I can't get into my frunk to replace the battery...what do I do?" a mechanical cable pull is the real ticket. Just love it the way it is!

POST 8Original post

Here's the scoop: 996.1, it's mechanical 996.2, electrical, if the batteries dead or the actuator is broke, there's a cable behind the fender skirt that opens the frunk. (unless you've moved the cable to right underneath the front bumper) To access it jack the right front wheel off the ground. Turn the wheel far right, this will give you access to pop off the plastic doohickees and a few screws, then you can move the skirt aside and reach in and pull the cable.
