Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am currently getting about 9.5 MPG in the City which seems to be much lower than most have reported. This is in San Francisco with a stop sign at each block so lots of stop and go. The car is well tuned up and just passed smog with flying colors. Any ideas? Anything that I should check that comes to mind? It has a new air filter...

Reset all in your trip computer. Do a manual mileage logging and also watch the mileage computer console display for 1 tank full. Compare the results.

San Francisco and city traffic, no need to say more. I lived in the city for 7 years, all cars get **** mileage there. You add the Pacific Heights hills, and you got yourself a single digit MPG fuel economy on any car. I had low single digits MPG on every car I had in the SF, regardless of the motor. The crap traffic and constant sitting and idling =/ "city" MPG manufacturers claim. My 540i proudly wore 11-12 MPG around town, my mustang did 120-150 miles to the tank, my mazda 323 with 1.6 liter motor did 200 miles to the tank. Take the car out of the city, drive to Modesto and back a few times, or drive in a loop around the bay on I80-i880-i92-i101 to improve your mileage. With my 996, my long term counter have not been reset in ages now, so it is permanently frozen on 24.8MPG.

I made a thread about this a couple of months ago. It's pretty normal. Take a look at mine: http://www.fuelly.com/car/porsche/91...oustrap/288627 12mpg on my city only tanks.

It is good for fuel economy. Driving to your location would not provide the needed economy boost . I loved my highway 1 drives to Moss Beach Distillery, but they never returned decent fuel economy. I remember running that road at night multiple times, breaking 100MPH next to the cliffs at night was an absolute rush. Going up the Sharp Park road was also a blast, the views from the observation pull-out were always epic.

I get it, so there was a "method to your madness" If you drove thru the old Devil's slide section on 1 with any kind of pace you're a braver man then me! to get back to the OP's question my mileage goes way down around town or with brisk driving, probably as low as 10-12 and at the same time I've gotten 20-22 with a long freeway cruise.
