Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all. new member hear with my first 911! Love the car , but today out having a little fun I was doing about 35 and pushed on the fun pedal and the rpm and boost started to climb then all of a sudden it hit the rev limiter and no tranny!! No bangs, just no gears as if it was in neutral! I came coasting to a stop and just about 10mph the gear indicator lights came back on in forth and the tranny was back! So I left it in auto mode and started making my way home, just before heading home I hit the boost again and it did the same thing, no gears in auto or tiptronic. Coasted down again and it came back. Once on my street I put it in manual hit the boost and no issues!!! Anyone ever experience this?? Also noticed a 3/4 inch rubber hose (not wet at all hanging down near the exhaust. It's very dark at this point so I tried to follow the hose back but really can't see where it comes from or where it came off! Any input would be awesome!!

Can't say for sure, but I think it's designed to work like that. Not to criticize, but you shouldn't be hitting the rev limiter. Our cars power curve max's at around 5500 rpm. I ALWAYS drive in manual mode and when I want max acceleration I hit the button at around 4500 rpm. The small delay in the shift makes it shift at around 5500 rpm, ideal spot. You're potentially doing a lot of damage to your $20K engine, stop hitting the rev limiter.

Thank you but I think you misunderstood! As I applied gas the boost came on and as it was building all of the red indicator light went out and under throttle the car hit the rev limiter because I now had to gears. I was as if the car was shifted into neutral! Then as I coasted down to pull over thinking about who to call to come get me the transmission engaged the red indicators came back on( in 4th) downshifted and I started making my way home! Tried to hit boost again , same result, once the trans came back this time I put it in tiptronic, hit it again built boost transmission was fine ???

^^+1 The rubber hose hanging near the exhaust could be the coolant overflow hose. Drops down from the coolant tank, left side, behind left rear wheel, usually around #1 coil pack. It is open on the end and does not connect to anything.

POST 5Original post

Clearly you have a problem.. 1st step, have the fluid level checked 2nd step. have the trans fault codes read (will need a better tool than just a OBDII code reader eg. Durametric, PIWIS )

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
