I'm looking for lower console leather trim pieces (#29 below) and the numbers on the actual parts aren't "complete" so it's difficult to confirm leather without holding the part or high quality images. Here's an example.. no 03 or 05 suffix to denote leather vs leatherette. Obv this image is good enough quality to tell that it's leather but that's not always the case. I'd love to have a better way to be specific with sellers to confirm i'm getting the right part - am I missing something or is this just the way trim pieces are??

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If you car came equipped with leather panels there should be an option code to indicate that on your VIN sticker. For example, my '99 C2 has option 981 listed to indicate "leather dash & panels"...but it could vary depending on model year. There are other "X" codes as well for leather console, etc.
Thanks. I was thinking more about identifying parts not attached to a VIN.. like eBay or other parts depots.

Yes, that certainly makes it more difficult. Purchasing used parts from a known dismantler (DC Auto, LA Dismantlers, etc.) would be a better option if you specifically needed to discern between Leather/Leatherette as they would be well versed in the differences and offer an exchange if they made a mistake.
