Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good afternoon all. I own a 99 911 with the 3.4L engine. Wanting to do the pse hack from the cap to the outlet pipe, but seeing a few posts about people saying this isnt possible on the 3.4L mufflers. There is a lip covering this cap, if this is ground off and cut open would the result be the same, or is the interior of the muffler different and this sound would not be any better? I initially wanted to do the fister mod between the inlet and outlet pipe, but all the exhaust shops Ive gone to refuse to even attempt this. Love the car so far except for the exhaust note which is disappointingly subdued hoping to figure out something to fix this. Thanks!!!

POST 2Original post

I guess I was lucky. Ordered a u pipe dropped it off at an exhaust guy. Collected it a week later and paid him $60.

POST 3Original post

Like Hbdunn says, find a speed shop close to you and buy a 1 3/4 U pipe and ask them who does performance exhaust systems around your area.

I had a company cut the mufflers in half and gut the internals. Then re weld the mufflers The sound was incredible with some noticeable at higher rpm.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My understanding is I cannot do the easier pse style exhaust (labeled MK2 mod) though with the muffler I have since its a 99. I have a shop that will do this work, but will not do the fister mod between the inlet and outlet due to lack of space to cut and weld

POST 6Original post

If I were you, I would take a picture of the Fister set-up to show them how easy it is to do, I had Daren at Fister do my 04 C2 and then I did 02 C2 myself. not hard if you have a welder and hole-saw.

POST 7Original post

I was able to do my 99 mufflers. Its a tight fit, but it can be done for sure on the 99s.

That is the Gundo Hack illustrated in your photo. Fister just connects the inlet pipe to the outlet pipe. I don't see why a skilled welder couldn't do either one on the early muffler. Keep looking for a good shop!

POST 9Original post

I may be wrong but I don't think there is any difference between early and late mufflers in regards to the angle and distance between the inlet and outlet pipes . So the Fister D mod can be done on all of them .

That sounds right to me.
