Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you took the 996 out for a Thanksgiving drive, let's hear about it. Since "winter" hasn't officially hit here in SoCal, the wife and I decided that one more run to the mountains in the 996 was in order before the roads get too cold for summer tires. So, we made the 400-mile round trip from San Diego to Big Bear Lake Friday, which includes the climb from sea level to the Onyx Summit pass at 8,443 feet. The weather was perfect on the way up. On the way back down, there was a bit of icy rain in Big Bear valley, but once we were a few miles out of town, the roads were dry and the wind was calm, resulting in almost perfect downhill conditions (air temps in the 50's, tire temps up in the 90's once they got some heat going). Usually, power falls off drastically above the 7,000 foot mark, but the cold, dense, dry air helped make great power, and the passing lanes came along at just the right times to help keep the road before us wide open. Also noteworthy is that my car (with the center radiator installed and all of the radiators clean) runs at very consistent temps, deviating only slightly in dramatically different operating temps (this weekend saw ambient temps of 91 degrees in San Diego and the high 30's up in the mountains).

POST 2Original post

It was dry, clear and sunny in the Seattle area yesterday, so I took the 996 out with the top down even though it was in the high 30s... Despite gloves and a ski hat, I only made it as far as the Starbucks that's 10 minutes away.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was in the high 30's when I went out for my morning caffeine jolt on both Saturday and Sunday. The garage stays at about 50 in winter, so I don't feel TOO sorry for the Porsche.

POST 4Original post

I love hearing about great drives rather than IMSB worries. Here is my pre Thanksgiving drive with my new Michelin AS3s over three mountain passes. It got pretty dirty but with a good cleaning, it looks good again.

POST 5Original post

I took my car for a drive with the top down for thanksgiving and also every weekend, I didn't change my tires for winter tires and I'm keeping the car that way. I would drive the whole winter and I would put the top down most of the time.

POST 6Original post

I took my dad (84) on a back county drive in Maryland after we stuffed ourselves on Thanksgiving Day. It was sunny and 50F, which made for a remarkable drive. Days like these last a long time in your memory.

POST 7Original post

Took the family to Grammies house in the SUV. Does that count?
