So I'm super close to buying an '01 C2. I would be the 3rd owner and there is no paperwork with the car. The CarFax tells a lot since the original owner had it for 14 years and had ALL of the service at the Porsche dealer, but it is missing details and some of the service records (I know because I spoke to the dealer about the clutch replacement and IMS Solution install). I asked the dealer for a printout of the records, but they won't provide them due to privacy laws. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get better records OR find the original owner? I even asked if the dealer would contact the owner for me and provide my info for them to get in touch, but they said they wouldn't do that either. Thoughts?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I called the dealership that sold my car originally back in 99. They said the records were deleted after 10 years of the owner not using the original dealer. Makes sense. Luckily the car cam with the maintenance book with stamps showing work done.
Since you have the CarFax, you know where it was previously registered - try posting in regional forms where it was registered to see if you can get any traction.

That is interesting. I bought two used cars in the past and both times I told the dealer that I would not buy the cars unless they could supply the contact information or have the previous owner contact me. Both times the dealer choked saying they can't do that and I got up and walked out. Within a few days the dealers called back with the info and sharing that the previous owner would call me. I called the one and the other owner did call me. Both were happy to discuss their previous cars. This was probably 20 years ago and I guess the world has changed and nobody wants to be bothered. I wish you well in your search. Mr. 5chn3ll's suggestion is a good one.
I have been able to get records from dealers without any problems, they just redact name and addresses in both cases....they should be able to do that.
I've gotten records from dealers. Just had to provide proof of ownership.
They won't do that, in the State of California that is considered altering a legal document and is allegedly a felony. Or so two people there have told me.
