My engine is going in to FSI for a complete rebuild so I don't need the Spin-On Oil Filter Adapter I bought. Send a PM if you're interested.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sorry don't need the spin-on adapter because mine has a FSI installed one as well. Nice choice for the engine reconstruction provider. You will be happy!

I figured I'd bite the bullet and take care of everything at once. Looking forward to the rebuild though next June seems so far away!

Is your engine broken?

I was going to get the IMS Solution installed so I was going through the pre-qualification process. The installer found some debris in the sump and the determination was the IMS tensioner paddle pad was deteriorating. Also found the cam deviations were out of spec on both banks. Correction would have required the case be split. So, rather than go through engine disassembly twice, I decided to just take care of everything once and for all.
I'm having a hard time deciding between the better oil filtering that the spin on gives you vs the ability to easily look at the filter during oil changes.

Go for the adapter, and get a filter cutter. Here are two examples: https://www.amazon.com/Engine-Motor-Filter-Cutter-Tool/dp/B01N156ODN/ref=pd_vtp_263_1/131-1858988-3134041?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01N156ODN&pd_rd_r=73335db7-80fe-4a5c-82ad-33c1fab66c63&pd_rd_w=5EXNd&pd_rd_wg=Q048O&pf_rd_p=59828acf-6bde-4d94-96a5-3e2b4a0e0bc6&pf_rd_r=9MV7C2EQSNRR3EME4Q3M&psc=1&refRID=9MV7C2EQSNRR3EME4Q3M https://www.amazon.com/Engine-Motor-Filter-Cutter-Tool/dp/B01N156ODN/ref=pd_vtp_263_1/131-1858988-3134041?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01N156ODN&pd_rd_r=73335db7-80fe-4a5c-82ad-33c1fab66c63&pd_rd_w=5EXNd&pd_rd_wg=Q048O&pf_rd_p=59828acf-6bde-4d94-96a5-3e2b4a0e0bc6&pf_rd_r=9MV7C2EQSNRR3EME4Q3M&psc=1&refRID=9MV7C2EQSNRR3EME4Q3M https://www.quickcar.com/oil-filter-cutter-64-730/ Mine looks like the second one, I do not remember where I bought it, but it was around that price or cheaper.

Yeah, you have to dig around in the bottom of the filter. You could buy the adapter and see for yourself which you prefer!

Yep! Worth it to me having to cut the filter open just to get rid of the spring by-pass.
+996 on the SOFA the cartridge is a nightmare and you need the oil filter wrench ughh haha
