POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Learned to drive on my fathers 99 c2 cab. Ive owned 7 Porsches now. 964, 993c2s, 997c2s cab, 997.1gt3, 997.2gt3, 991gts and now 00 996 Slicktop Aerokit stock so far. Will add KW V3 & Some exhaust. Once I figure that out. got it in last night. Heres a couple pics and some from the ad 1. Didnt realize the car was basalt black when I bought. HUGE Bonus. My dads 996 I learned to drive on was basalt. As My buddy said only you buy a car and dont know the color 🤪 2. Came in last night at 9:30pm. Went on a quick Mulholland drive. Feels solid. No rattles. Suspension feels surprisingly smooth and working decent for its age...its just way too soft. It oversteers quick...way quicker than my 993 or any other Carrera Ive owned (7 of them). Tires are some ****e conti dsw so part of the reason. 3. Very hard to beat for the money. In terms of fun. 3. Much harder to drive fast like this. Its very soft and loose. KWs, Exhaust & Tires ASAP. 4. The steering is much better than the last 997 Carrera S I drove. Not as good as my 993. But with fresh tires and coilovers I think that will improve. It feels LIGHT as hell. Power is super smooth. Feels quite a bit faster than my 993, more than the 282 vs 296 stated horsepower figures.

POST 2Original post

Nice find - slick top with the kit is some holy grail stuff for me.

POST 3Original post

Beautiful find and congrats! On the suspension check out Ohlins R&T they work really well on the 996. Last time I checked they weren't too much more than the KW and the ride is amazing.

POST 4Original post

Beautiful! Really nice find. +1 on the KWv3. That plus Tarett GT bars with drop links really improved my car.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not Corner balanced but just did weight check.

POST 6Original post

Congrats, Great find and your car has 300 hp rather than 296 hp for the 98-99', actually you can see that 300 hp number in the Spec sheet you posted; Also your car has a lot of cool options, Aerokit w/ rear GT fins, Alu shift-****/brake-lever/exhaust tips, litronics etc..., very nice. After 20 years, all the suspension, bushing components will feel tired for sure, they will need a refresh... Cheers,

POST 7Original post

You don't need those grey sports seats, do you?

POST 8Original post

Congratulations on your new toy. It is beautiful. Rare to find a slicktop with aero and sport seats. It is a keeper for sure.

POST 10Original post

Love the spec on this car; aero kit, sport seats, really nice.

POST 13Original post

Nice, jealous of the slick top. Definitely agree that stock is pretty loose once you get some momentum.

POST 14Original post

Score!!! With the coil overs and corner balance that car will get through corners properly and with vigor.

POST 15Original post

I'm glad you started a thread for this .Based on your search thread, I knew you'd love this when it arrived. +1 to your #3 in your post. These cars are crazy value for the money. The fun factor is through the roof (or not, in the case of yours, without the sunroof... I'll see myself out). Edit: Also, what's this about 300hp vs 296hp? Can all 1999 996 owners lay claim to that additional 4hp?

POST 17Original post

Nice .1 with all the fixings! The rear bumper slats seem to be a rare option on Aero cars, I wonder why

hahaha 99 had 296. Porsche said 300 on 2000 after due to E throttle. To my knowledge.

POST 19Original post

D'oh! You got a 2000, not a '99. My bad.

Might have the fuel cooler on it.

POST 22Original post

Super cool car, congrats! Slick top is a huge feature Id kill for and demanded my buddy include on his recent 992 build. I look forward to following this thread. Ive spent time driving a lot of the pcars youve owned so Im eager to hear more of your thoughts on the 996 as time goes on.

POST 24Original post

What a great car! From the factory perfection, don't change a thing about the exterior!

POST 26Original post

Congrats! New motor mounts may be in order... I'll second the rec on the KW V3's...quite an improvement over B8's with H&R lowering springs for me. I can't comment on the Ohlins, but I'm sure they're great too. Good luck with 'er...

POST 27Original post

Basalt Black belongs in the sun! If you keep it outside like you have been you'll soon notice another surprise benefit of the 996 - how much attention they get. Enjoy the new car. I'm looking forward to any future observations and comparisons you have with your other cars as you get to know the new girl.

POST 28Original post

if you could continue to frequently posting pictures of this thing that would be great <3

POST 29Original post

Wow, I am just reading this, Congrats are in order!!! What a fantastic find! I am not trying to spend your money...When you do get coilovers, strong consider these parts as well (adj stab links, rr toe control links, rear upper camber links). Of course there are lots of other potential improvements, but these were the most effective for me.

here we go... also added some thoughts on my insta.. Coming from someone whos owned a 964c2, 993c2s, 997.1gt3, 997.2 c2s, 997.2gt3 & 991gts. After some more days daily driving it. Plenty comfortable for a daily! Much more than most cars Im used to. Much more fun than the last 997.2 c2s I drove...no that doesnt mean its a better car overall but Id def reach for the 996 keys first for a canyon drive. 996 lacks the vibration and old feel of the aircooled cars but makes up for it in agility & the way it moves. Its a very playful chassis, much more so than the ones after it which are so planted. Car has sport seat option, they sit too high. They also make you feel like youre sitting on them, not in them. 997 sport seats are much better overall and hold you in place better due to deeper bolstering. Car is stock but way more snappy and edgy at the limit than my 964, 993 or any other 911 Ive owned. Stock Vs stock I prefer over a 993 for fun. In my opinion the 993 needs coilovers, lwfw & exhaust and then yes its a different car. This car needs KWs and tires. The body roll combined with horrible tires is fun though. Car is very quiet in terms of exhaust. If you dont like it for its looks I get it but if you like a 997 and dont like a 996 for driving...its probably because you cant.

POST 31Original post

As I learned recently, that Gurney flap on the spoiler - $450 from Porsche - adds at least 10mph to the maximum speed. I love that sunroof delete more than I thought I would If you ever sell it...

yep! Been tracking cars for 12+ years. Can see how some wouldnt be confident in one. @thekosherstogie is my ig Already ordered Fd motorsports one. Ill see how tame that is. And if too calm maybe do sport cats or try another exhaust haha I hear you. My other car is also a slicktop. Im a big fan of deletes

I was actually going to recommend it haha as I just put one on last week and love it! Not too loud but definitely a noticeable difference compared to stock. I find myself taking the long(er) way home and reasons to leave the house A LOT more than even before
