Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Spotted in Portland. Sadly not on a 996. Now I'll just be backing slowly out of here and slinking back to the 997 forum......

POST 3Original post

Probably had a 996, sold it, and keeps the tag? Maybe he's thinking he'd be back in one soon.

There's a good possibility it's totally random. I looked it up and Oregon's plate format is NNN LLL (N-number L-letter). For some strange reason license plates interest me.I think that's one of the things that led me to buying a Porsche. For a while I was into looking at the CA license plates here and trying to find the oldest license CA plates in the current series that began in the early 80's. Two of the oldest ones I found were on Porsches. It led me to realize that they were cars that were well taken care of and can last a long time.

My favorite California plate was the early '80s Sunset Plate. I had one on my old 533i and liked it enough to have a replica made for the M5. It's the correct number but technically illegal because it wasn't issued by the DMV.

I agree. I liked those plates too. That number would have been issued like in the 2009-2011 range. So, correct modern number but old style plate? I found that the current series actually started on the old blue and yellow plates for a few years before the white sunset one kicked in.

When I bought the car it was missing the front plate and I eventually got a fix-it ticket for it. I just checked and the ticket is dated 9/23/08 so it would have been late 2008 that I got the new plates and had the ticket signed off. And yes, correct number on a replica plate. It looks like I bought the replica in 2011. I stopped using front plates in the mid '90s and it's pretty amazing I've only been stopped once (as I'm jinxing myself). By some miracle it passed smog and I put the new sticker on today. My old 911T was also missing the front plate. I didn't want to give up the period correct blue and yellows so I had the same place that did sunset plate do a replica blue and yellow. AFAIK it's still with the car.
