I bought my cab a few months ago and it did not come with the windscreen. I have considered getting one but have never had one and I am wondering if it is worth the money in terms of really lowering wind in the cabin and also the hassle of putting it on and off etc... - What do you folks think? J

Worth it. It's an easy on off and it dramatically reduces the "swirl" of wind that comes back at you from the rear.
Absolutely, a necessity for comfort while top down touring. j
It makes a noticeable difference in reducing turbulance at highway speeds. Some say thats good, some say not. relinuca
I've done without one for the three years I've owned my car. I guess if you don't want your hair to get messed up you might want one, but otherwise I'm not bothered by the wind when I have the top down.
Personal taste. One came with my car. My wife likes it. I never use it. If I wanted a sunroof, would have gotten a hardtop.
It is amazing. On the colder spring or fall days, you can still have the top down if you have the windscreen up. It's great.
it's essential in cooler climates. convenient in warmer weather if you don't want to muss up your hair....
YES. SI. JA!
I bought one from Ebay a fews ago because my wife didn't like riding with the top down and eating her hair. It works great, however, I seldom use it. Maybe a couple of times a year. You know the saying, "happy wife, happy life!"
Yes. I can tell from your avatar - hair is not messed up at all. (sorry, I couldn't resist)
It's nice to have, just like all the books and the tool kit. It makes the car worth a tad more when it's time to sell. Oh yea, in 7 years of my 996 Cab and 1 year of my Turbo Cab ownership, I've used them a total of less than half a dozen days out of hundreds going topless. I ride motorcycles, without windshields. If the wind was an issue I wouldn't ride them nor have bought a Cab. Wife does like them though as she has near waist length hair and got used to the deflector in her Boxster.
It works very well, even at highway and extra-highway speeds. I only use it occasionally. Normally, I want the wind blowing around me, but on nice days, when Mrs. SSST and I are going out and she has her hair fixed I use it.
The faster you go the more you'll appreciate it..........
Women love it and I use it when its cold out.
I use mine all the time. It allows me to drive with the top down in winter. And the wife appreciates that it keeps her hair in place.
When the hardtop comes off my cab the windscreen goes on. If I want the air circulation it flips down, but I seldom use that option. By the way, Suncoast Porsche sells them brand new for $259 which is less than most of the used ones you find on eBay.

I am still considering buying one from a poster on another thread but it all depends on his asking price. If he does me a sweet deal then I will buy it. If not then I guess the wind will have to blow my hair and i keep my collar up lol. Thanks for the info re Suncoast price on both threads.
Get one. They are totally worth it. I drive with my top down all winter long on nice days. There would be no way I could do that without the windstop- it would be too cold. Besides, it cuts down the noise in the car a fair bit when up. If I want a full hair-blowing experience, I simply put it down. My wife thanks me for keeping it up...
Like everyone else has stated, it is most certainly worth it.
Yes. It is a noticeable difference. Can have a conversation while driving and extends top down season. Definitely recommend it.
Worth it... aside from the wind decrease, you also get the bonus of hearing the person next to you...
Depends on whose next to you.....
Like they said Git one Helps keeps stuff in back seat fm flying all over the place
I like the windscreen, but I find that I am taking it in and out too frequently to make room for the kids in the back seat. An interesting side note: I find that the windscreen is *almost* as effective when it is in place, but "folded down" flat. Just the horizontal portion over the back seats has a decent effect on reducing air buffeting coming from behind. So, if you don't want to feel like you are under a sunroof, you can leave the windscreen folded down. But for the love of god, don't drive around with the top down and the windows up.
I am over 6 feet tall....if i install the windscreen....my chest and knees are against the steering wheel.... I like the "quiet" part...but rarely use it....I wish the installation holes were further back.....I would leave it permanently....
I just ordered one of these from Suncoast (thanks for the tip Dharn55!). I didn't think about it restricting leg room though. I usually have the drivers seat as far back as it will go, will the wind deflector not let that happen? Ted

I'm 6'2", the seat bottom can go all the way back but certainly not the seat back.
I see the wind deflector mounts in the sides at my back seat. How far forward of the mounting holes does the windscreen come? In the up? and down position? Thank you very much!! J
It doesn't go forward of the mounts - just up and back from the mounts.
PROS: I can easily light my pipe with a bic lighter at 70 mph. Also great for cold days. CONS: My 3 shelties hate it cuz they can't go with me when I use it
Op, Get it, I had second thoughts the night I picked it up and installed it before getting on the road, it does cut down the wind buffeting a great deal, and I thought I was going to missing the wind buffeting, but then I realized I can just reach back even while driving to raise or lower the windscreen in about 3 seconds total, so i can tailor it accordingly depending on the mood, the temperature, the girl, etc. What it will really do for you is significantly extend your top down season, I drove to the local Porsche owner get together last Saturday morning with the top down and wind deflector up when the outside temperature was only 42 deg F, I had a ball cap on and a light jacket, heater full warm and blower on full, seat heater on low setting and I was very comfortable for the 30 minute drive on the highway, there was NO WAY I could have done that without the wind deflector!! I wonder what all the other drivers on the highway thought of the crazy guy in the Cab driving with the top down...... Get it, you won't regret it.
And the other thing is if it rains your fine as long as you keep it over 80, I rode down I-95 one time in a thunderstorm at 80, no water came in the car at all. well nearly none. You do get weird looks from the peasants tho'.

I have one, but I don't like it. I bought it from Pelican or SunCoast since mine didn't come with one. Point 1) I'm almost 6'3". With the car seat in the far position, I have to sit pretty upright, and then the wind gets me over the top of the windshield. If I try to move the seat-back back, then it runs into the rear wind screen. Point 2) I can't put my clubs in the back of the car. My wife won't let me get rid of the screen, though.
Must have in vert!
It definitely makes a difference. As others have also stated, I only use it when the wife is in the car!

If I take the driver out of the bag they will fit or if I slide the passenger seat forward.
I used mine for about a 40 mile 80mph drive today - very big difference. I generally do not install it unless I know I am driving highway speeds with the top down. I hate the look of it - I think it chops up the lines of the car.
had mine for 10 years. I leave it installed in the car year round. wouldn't be with out it.
Took our first drive after installing the wind deflector. Wife likes it. Says it is a huge improvement - this is a big deal as she historically has not liked have the top town in any of the cars.
I keep checking in on this thread thinking someone is ready to unload theirs. Oh well, I will just have to hit Suncoast.

Whimp.
LOL...it's not for me. As a former Marine and, how you say, without hair on the skullcap, doesn't bother me a bit. My wife has a ton of hair and is spoiled by the wind deflector on her Audi. On a rare casual occasion, I can get her to put a ball cap on.

Sorry to revive and old thread here...So you can leave the windscreen on and put the top up and it won't cause any problems? I assumed it had to come off before the top goes back. I just got the car a month ago. Thanks
You CAN put the top up and leave the windscreen up. There is a slight tint when it's up and you're looking through the rear view mirror but not really a big deal.
I like the wind, that's why I bought a Cab. It gives me some of the lack of confinement and freedom that riding a motorcycle does. I have several motorcycles and have since the '60s, I don't like windshields on them. I've tried out the deflector maybe twice in 2 years, maybe 3-4 times on my previous 996 Cab that I owned for 7 years. I'd bet that most people that find the wind a bit unsettling and would like it.
I use mine in the summer w/ the soft top and it works great - only consideration is that you lose your rear seats for humans (they become 'wind resistant' storage spaces).
Any recommendations on folding or non folding and OEM vs. aftermarket?
I never used one but the better half grabbed the one from the son's car and put it in my car, I have to say I like it a lot, I am bald headed so that part don't bother me, her hair stays in place now, I do wear hearing aids and the biggest gain was reduction in noise and able to have a conversation in the car at freeway speed. now I need to find one to buy.
