Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 1999 911 immobilizer was water damaged and I was advised by ECU repair that it could not be repaired. The ecu was not damaged. I can buy a replacement on Ebay from a 1999 Boxster but I do not know what it would take to make it work? Must it be re programmed to my ECU?, what about my key FOB? Would greatly appreciate any help on this. Thanks Bill

POST 2Original post

Simple answer...yes. Immobilizer, ECU and key fobs must all be programmed together. I surprised ECU Doctors did not tell you that. However, if you send all of them to ECU Doctors I'll bet they can do it for you.

POST 3Original post

If needed, I have the ECU, Immobilizer, 2 Keys and all locks/ignition available from a 2000 911. I think if you swap everything out, there is no need for reprogramming. PM me if interested.

That may work, what is your asking price and shipping to 44236? Thanks Bill

billybob6440 Before you do that! Immobilizers and DMEs aren't 100% compaitle between cars. There are different features and settings that each were made for. Also programming and VIN #s are a HUGE factor when it comes to getting extra keyfobs and diagnosing your car in the future. See this video were I talk about this topic specifically. You Tube Sorry Kris, I do not mean to ruin a sale for you, it's just that putting a used ECU Set in your car is a bad idea. Let me know if I can answer any questions that aren't already answered in the video.

No worries. I would never want to sell something to someone that they couldn't use or could cause damage. Thanks for the education!
