Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently purchased a 1999 Carrera 4 out of CA. The exterior color is Slate Grey Metallic with a black interior, 6sp. I have looked for some time to find another 99' Carrera 4 with the same color/interior/trans./options as mine and have found a few similar either being an auto/cab. Called PCNA for color production numbers for 99' 996's with no luck. At the recommendation of PCNA I called some Porsche restoration shops throughout the US..nothing. If anyone has knowledge of another 99' Carrera 4 in Slate Grey/black interior 6sp. coupe please let me know.

Sounds nice! Mileage? Any other options? Suspension, wheels etc.? Any aftermarket mods ? Photo's ? Build sticker? If you're trying to determine if it's original paint, the build sticker should tell you. If you're trying to determine how many were built in that color combo, I wish you luck as that sort of info tends to be spotty at best - unless you're doing some sort of high dollar restoration 😉 Then the factory seems to go out of their way to research all kinds of crazy arcane info...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks you dporto. No mods at all on this Carrera-completely stock. Have all the original paperwork and the window sticker specifies it color as Slate Grey Metallic. It has 113K. What I'm trying to determine is if there is another 1999 model out there the same as mine.

OP, this may be a fool's errand you're on and I'm like Bill... why? What are you trying to accomplish? Your car is super nice. Don't get me wrong. But we're talking a standard C4, not an original Gmund 356 here. Trying to find the exact number of duplicates will be almost impossible to find. The Porsche option book is about as thick as a Webster's dictionary and trying to find hard data on the amount of exact spec'd cars probably doesn't exist. What you will find is the amount of C4 cars produced for the 1999 model year, but trying to go beyond that... well, good luck!

Drive it and enjoy the hell out of it. In the end, the 996 is a mass produced vehicle, which will hinder its collectability down the road.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gentlemen, I really appreciate you all taking the time for the replies. b3freak thank you for mentioning my C4 is nice as well as your input ..you do make a good point. Curiosity mostly, and as gnarbowski pointed out, the hindered collectibility of a 996 wishing the opposite. Just wondering if a standard 99' C2/C4 could have some future value as the previous generations.

POST 8Original post

Therein lies the rub as far as collect-ability goes! You don't know until you know. 10 years ago you could easily find a '80's 911 of decent quality $15k...now not so much. 964/993 similar pricing - now? FUGGEDABOUDIT!!! Unless it's a very limited edition car or it has some special provenance, the chances of a basic 996 era car becoming collectible are pretty slim. The upside is that aside from a few shortcomings they're crazy cool/good cars that are meant to be driven! Good luck

POST 9Original post

While not a 99, my parts car is a 2000 Slate Gray C4 6 Speed with black interior.
