Can anybody confirm that the AOS can be replaced in a Tip equipped 2004 996 w/o dropping the trans? I found one thread where a user was in mid-process of trying, but the pics wouldn't open for me and no final result was posted. There was a link for dropping the Tip and doing the IMS, but I really just want to get to the AOS. BIG QUESTION: Is this doable? If so, any tips for a Tip equipped model?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It may be possible but it will be easier and probably less time consuming to drop/lower (not remove) the trans.

Not sure what this means. I have read about lowering the engine, but not the trans. I know there is a third mount at the front of the trans. Is is just a matter of removing the angular braces and then this mount, supporting the engine on the oil pan and the front of the trans?

Engine and trans as a unit.
