Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought this was an interesting choice, so I wanted to get the experts' opinions. Two cars, both in great condition, with identical mileage and priced within a few hundred dollars of each other: 2002 C4 Cab, Certified Pre-Owned from dealer, with hard top, extra set of wheels and snow tires, six speed, upgraded stereo 2002 C4S Coupe, no warranty, tiptronic Thoughts?

POST 2Original post

C4S yes, tiptronic no !!! Lots of extra with the cab.

POST 3Original post

That's a tough question to answer - they are totally different cars. Do you really want a cab, or are you just attracted because of the extras? I prefer the C4S look, but I wouldn't want a tip, personally. If I had to choose between the two, I would probably buy the cab, but I would most likely look for another car.

Nothin' wrong with a tip.

POST 5Original post

Tough choice... nothing wrong with a tip if you live near daily gridlock... but I'm a cab guy... and believe, as all cab guys do, that everyone has a repressed inner cab guy lurking inside... I'm no expert, but I say cab... Rudy

POST 6Original post

either come with a warranty? CPO? how'd they check out PPI wise? then decide....

POST 7Original post

I've got an '02 C4S Tip - bought from a Dentist in Austin... get a PPI and pick the girl with the nice hips

POST 8Original post

Just curious, what's the mileage and price of the C4S?

POST 9Original post

man - coupe or cab, auto or manual.... you need to sit down and think a while.....those are like opposite ends of the spectum

POST 10Original post

I have no problems with a tip - i just prefer a manual tranny. For some people, the tip is the way to go. I agree with Ed though - the coupe vs. cab is a big issue here too.

POST 11Original post

I'd go with the c4s. Not a cab guy myself and love the turbo look

POST 12Original post

The tip would be a deal-killer for me, despite the fact that it's a C4S. Just couldn't do it. Cabriolet adds weight and isn't as nice looking as a C4S, but still a good car. I'd find a third option. A 6-sp coupe. It's not like they're rare.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes - the C4 cab is CPO, with a 2 year warranty.

POST 14Original post

If those were my only 2 options, then I'd get the C4 Cab because of the CPO warranty (assuming that it's a new 2yr/50k and not one already on the clock). However, if there was an option 3 -- NEITHER -- then I would opt for that. I'm weary about the C4 Cab because of the aftermarket stereo. There's an old thread about a user that bought a C4 Cab w/ CPO and aftermarket stereo what went through alot of grief is getting his AC electrical gremlin resolved under CPO warranty because of the aftermarket stereo. ///Michael

Yes, the '04 is MOST bus which is fiber optic. An aftermarket stereo probably has new wires run, and there aren't many installers qualified to pull a car apart as much as would be required to re-wire.

Michael, I miscommunicated on this one. I simply meant that the C4 cab has the factory stereo upgrade option, which I realize still isn't great.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I totally agree - that's what makes it such an interesting choice.

POST 19Original post

With so many cars available, I'd settle the two biggest issues (coupe vs. cab, tip vs. stick) before I even started looking. Those aren't things you should leave up to a web forum...

POST 20Original post

Tooloud speaks the truth - go drive all options and don't be in a hurry to by now... I too used to be a nay-sayer regarding Tiptronics, then I drove one at Motorsport Ranch after a great instructor friend of mine had told me Tips regularly showed tail lights to the 6 speed

POST 21Original post

Tough choice to make. What else you got? Look for a C4S convertible and get the best of both worlds!! -Manil

POST 22Original post

We've all been here. I would suggest writing down a list of options that are important to YOU in order of priority. Then as you find cars, match them up to the list so you can objectively evaluate them. That way you end up with the right car, not the "right now" car. It's easy to get sucked into buying the first car you find just because it's shiny and nice.
