Evening! Found a torn CV boot and decided to update the entire front end. So far so good, but a couple concerns... First, then I removed the axle from the front drivers side, it literally slid right out of the differential... There is a small clip on the end of the axle, and I am hoping I can just push this back in, but...?! 20161111_172310.jpg Also, when I updated the front struts a while back, I forgot to order the thrust bearings and bump stops. So I got those and installed them today. However, I noticed the strut bearing plate on the passenger side is torn up. I've ordered a new one, but it won't be here for a week or so. Can I "fix" this one temporarily with RTV or the like?! 20161111_172702.jpg Thank you very much!! Bill

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I wouldn't worry about that top mount if you only have to get another week out of it - I don't think the RTV will help much anyway, but it probably won't hurt anything either, so if it makes you feel better go ahead and goop it up... My bushings were torn so bad that they were actually free floating in the mounting plate. The car still drove and handled remarkably well albeit quite noisily over bumps...As for the axle end - looks ok to me...no excessive wear to the splines. I think that clip just compresses when you push the end back into the receiving "socket" on the differential. Maybe the clip on yours is partially broken and that's why the axle end came out so easily. You should probably research this a little more to make sure everything goes back together properly.
Thanks for the response! I put the axle back together today. After opening the clip a little bit, when I pushed it back in, it stayed in... As far as the strut mount, after seeing how easy it was to put it all back together with the control arms and brakes out of the way, I've decided to just wait for that part to come and do it all at once! But thanks again for the response! 20161112_145004.jpg 20161112_180635.jpg 20161112_175605.jpg
This really makes a world of difference when you reconditioned the control arms. Feels like a solid and new car again.
