Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Here's a way to save some unsprung weight (not for the faint of wallet): http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars...-fiber-wheels/

POST 2Original post

$17,800 to save 15 lbs? Oh heck yes, I just purchased two sets, need em for the winter tires too!

POST 3Original post

I'd like a spare wheel as an ottoman for the office.

POST 5Original post

The price is obnoxiously high but they are beautiful and I got my geek on looking at that loom, so, thumbs up to Porsche for pushing the envelope!

...or if the driver work out and looses weight...

POST 8Original post

Curb rash is annoying enough on standard alloys...

POST 9Original post

When you consider the fact that a set of premium alloy centerlock wheels from a high-end manufacturer can easily cost $12K or more, the price for the carbon fiber wheels isn't so bad!

POST 10Original post

Is there a matching carbon-fiber butt plug? If so, I'm in! No, not really. But someone would want one. *cough* johnnyirish *cough*

Yes, these will be moving downmarket soon. It's already gone from a ~10s per year Koenigsegg to a ~100s per year 911 Turbo, so soon it will be on cars built in the thousands per year. It's unclear to me whether it's worth it for "normal" cars; as others have said the weight/fuel savings will be kind of minimal, and the ability to repairs these when a "normal-car" driver whacks a curb will be limited, so we might end up throwing enough carbon and epoxy in the landfill to offset the fuel being saved.
