Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

New to Rennlist. I am working on an '04 Carrera with a bad engine. I will need special tools to assemble & time the heads. The reasonably priced kits I see online state applicable up to 2001 models. Will they work on a 2004 (3 chain) model? Thx for any advice.

POST 2Original post

First thing you need to do is head to the LN Engineering website and buy the videos showing how to do this work. Also a good place to buy or rent the necessary tools. There really is no better website. https://lnengineering.com/

The cam timing tools are different between 5 and 3 -chain engines, so you'll need the 3-chain cam timing tool set. Other than that tools should be the same (verify this to be sertain!). Read plenty from good trusted sources how to sort the engine out and ask questions from same sources if something does not make sence to you. A very good place to ask questions is Porsche Engine Gurus at FB and there specially Hartech from UK or Slakker from US. Also as previously mentioned the LN is a source for a good information.

You don't need to buy any videos. The Porsche Club of America has a great video library, for free. You Tube If you're going to spend money, buy the book "Porsche 996 The Essential Companion"

That book is nice but won't help you getting the engine back together. For that you need BGS 8837 tool set or similar: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/26...?page=3#manual
