Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys, Im actually repainting my calipers and experienced some cissing on a small part of the front caliper. Reading through the instruction VHT claim you need to wait a week before repainting. So what should I do to get rid of the cissing? Cure the calipers in the oven, sand down the area with cissing, repaint and cure again? Or Wait a a week, sand down, repaint and cure in the oven? Do you think I shoukd wait a week for all 4 calipers before full curing in the oven? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Sorry....had to look that one up Definition of cissing . : the gathering of a wet film (as of varnish) into drops or streaks leaving parts of the surface bare or imperfectly covered. Cause. This is caused by painting over contaminated surfaces such as wax, oil or polish. The paint cannot adhere to the surface and draws away. You may have to strip off all the paint and start over. If the surface is contaminated I don't see how any more paint is going to help.

Exactly, I plan to sand down this area only and repaint after. I was just wondering if I should cure them befire or not... I guess Im better wait a week and then cure.

Oh I was not thinking about re-doing all the work for such a small section.. I imagine I would be able to sand down and repaint this area only.. I still have a week to think about it anyway.

POST 6Original post

Let it dry 24-48 hours. Sand. Let cure the 7 days. Repaint. 3-4 light coats. 10-15 minutes apart. All done in 60 minutes. Let cure 7 days. Then hit with 3-4 light coats of VHT Clear. Same as above. Let cure 7 days. Bake in oven. Done. I did my new rotor hats just like this. Perfect.

POST 7Original post

I let the baked clear cure about 2 weeks, then I coated the finish with Optimum Gloss Coat nano coating.

Hi Quick question! Ive been able to correct the cizzing and apply clear coat. The calipers look really good now but there is some orange peel. I would like to know if its possible to wet sand and polish the VHT clear. If yes should I do it before or after curing in the oven? Thanks!

Yes, of course - but remember that these are brake calipers you're talking about. You'll never see more than 30 - 40% of it - and that's 'cause you're looking...most everyone else isn't! The other thing is, they'll be covered in brake dust and other dirt most of the time. I'm just saying, don't kill yourself over these things... If you have to, then go for it!

Thanks for the reality check! You are right, its time to have fun with the car! I tend to do things once and as perfect as I can but I sometimes forget Im not building the car to expose it in a museum.. Pistons are going in this afternoon.
