Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It seems harder to rev up the RPMs in my 996 than in my 98 Nissan Pathfinder. Am I just imagining this? I would imagine the more powerful 996 engine would rev up easier.

POST 3Original post

Revving is one thing, power is another. I tried an Acura RSX-s, and that car revved to 7k in a heartbeat. Slow, but revvy.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's a 2001 C4. No offense intended, of course. I feel like maybe I am missing some kind of tune up in this department.

POST 5Original post

Mine seems to lag till about 3000 rpm. 3000 to 7000 is a flash.

POST 6Original post

Mine is lightning fast.... I'd worry if you're not able to get a fast response... does your throttle body need cleaning? http://euroautoforums.com/forums/ind...showtopic=1351

+1 Its a little slow (by comparison) from 1-3 k rpms, but its not slow. Somethings up.... of course most the time I'm over 2,000 anyway so ???

POST 8Original post

ohhhh....but that 3 to 7 is something special. Not to mention the sound it puts off.

POST 9Original post

My 01 C2 revs up like mad. So fast that I better pay attention. I also suspect something is not right. Should not even compare to a pathfinder

POST 10Original post

Agree. Something is wrong. Tune-up, check-up, something needs to be done.

POST 12Original post

Scan it. Low RPMs are for diesel trucks. From 4000 to redline, it should rev pretty quick.

POST 14Original post

Are you talking about when the car is in gear or out of gear? It makes a difference!

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's actually not stumbling, missing or anything like that. I think my concern is with the rev-up speed at low RPMs. 3k+ it's hellcat beeotch fast, making bleeping easyy. But from 800-2500, I try to bleep the gas and it's more of a salsa bowl dip (slow and methodical). I think the difficulty in bleeping at lower RPMs is what makes me think perhaps something is out of tune.

POST 16Original post

When comparing at low RPM's, don't forget you're revving 2 flywheels i.e.." Dual mass flywheel "

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Could you explain the dual-mass flywheel? Perhaps a diagram for the mechanically impaired?

POST 18Original post

Yes, 996's rev very slow. I started a thread on it a long time ago. Rev an M3 and you'll know the difference right away.

POST 19Original post

e-gas. Quicker throttle responce on a na car than on the Turbo......some mods can help both, but out of the box in both cases a noticable dif in blips to say a 993.

What is "bleeping?" Is that like "expletive deleted?" Are you possibly referring to "blipping the throttle" when heel & toe downshifting? My '99 has mechanical throttle (iirc) and my blips are bleeping awesome.

You must understand, a 996 is NOT a real Porsche and therefore it revs painstakingly slow. Yes a Camry is faster, in fact I got my "bleeping" a$$ kicked by a Camry yesterday. I was so embarrassed... If you want a REAL, i.e. fast reving, Porsche, buy a 993,997,964, 993TT, 996TT, 997TT, 997GT3, 997GT3RS, etc. LOL Anyone here willing to trade me their Camry for my 996? I'll even thow some cash into the deal if necessary.

Lower photo is standard rubber core at about 32lbs upper is single mass light weight at 13 lbs. much better revs and yes some truth to the statement a 996 or for that matter any Porsche built for N. America is not a real Porsche... https://rennlist.com/forums/attachme...1&d=1208962453
