Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, after a lot of discussion with and advice from people here on rennlist I took the plunge. Yesterday I made all the arrangements and I am now awaiting delivery of my 2003 C2 Cab (the one you see as my avatar) It's funny, I started out looking for 1999-2000 C4 Cabs because I really wanted the security of the AWD - I was well aware of the 911's reputation for ferocious and idiosyncratic handling. Then I started to reconsider buying a 996 at all because of all the talk about engine failures. In a way I'm glad the reputation is there - first because it's brought the prices down, and second because it caused me to find rennlist. I couldn't have done it without you guys, so thank you for all the helpful suggestions and advice. This is going to be the longest 2 weeks of my life waiting for the car to be shipped... -

2 weeks? I am sorry for you- Great looking car and I promise that you won't regret it. What options did it have? Looks like black or midnight blue?

firstly, congrats man you will love driving the thing. i love driving mine. secondly, it's a fallacy that the prices of the 996s have gone down due to the infamous rms/ims issues of the M96. they made a lot of them. the 996 is nearing its first decade. the 997 has been out a while and they're making even more of these. it doesn't help that they made so few of the air cooled 993s in comparison and they've got that whole history of aircooled thing to hold onto (weak ) etc. nothing unusual. i actually think the porsche 911 is holding its value well.

Yeah... it's being shipped across the country. Even with expedited they still only guarantee "within 10 days", so given there's a couple of weekends in there I'm not expecting it before 2 weeks. It's black with tan leather interior, heated seats (very important for me with the chilly mornings in spring and fall), 6 speed.

POST 6Original post

Way to go! I know what you mean about waiting. I picked mine up 800 miles away, but had to wait just under 3 weeks until I could get there. Have fun!

POST 7Original post

Congrats! Nothing like a 996 Cab! We'll be waiting with you........ for more pics!

POST 8Original post

Congrats! Looks nice. Yes, this is going to be a long 2 weeks. However, it'll all be worth it.

POST 10Original post

I had to wait about 3 days before I picked mine up... barely slept a wink. I'd have been a wreck if I'd waited 2 weeks!

Yeah... one friend of mine shelled out around $30,000 for an air-cooled 911 and another closer to $40,000 for a 993 Cab. For the life of me I can't understand why. The 993 is Derek Jeter to the Alex Rodriguez 996: The people that insist that Jeter and the 993 are better both invariably point to a bunch of intangible things that they insist somehow negate the overwhelming tangible evidence to the contrary. That ridiculous stack of canvas on the back of the 993 Cab when the top's down would be enough to dissuade me from buying one - it's ugly as hell and must be as aerodynamic as a brick. Personally I bought the 2003 because I wanted the 3.6 engine, the glass rear window and (ahem - a bit ashamed of the superficiality here) I like the headlights better. I'd disagree that the reliability reputation hasn't affected the resale value. Maybe you mean it's not the primary factor - and in that I'd agree with you - but it's certainly contributed. The stories of engine failures is what brought me here, and a new thread from a new user asking about it started what - yesterday? I needed to do a lot of research and talk to a lot of people before I was willing to risk plunking down even the highly depreciated cost of a 996 - if it had been $10,000 more I wouldn't have even considered buying one. -

same here, plus no side window, so when the top goes up, back seat is all dark. plus, read about Smart top and remote top. i think they are must-have mods.

Smart top is my favorite cab. mod. Derek Jeter IS the better Yankee! He may not be the better player of the two but he is the better Yankee.

POST 17Original post

Looks great. Hope you enjoy it. My '03 C2 Cab has been trouble-free. Rides well, runs well and can even get decent gas mileage if you choose. At some point, clean it, then treat the top with Raggtop. Best of luck.

RemoteTop is the first modification I'm planning - the ability to turn on the motion sensor with the top down makes it a must have for me as well. Plus I have to admit being able to lower the top remotely is pretty cool too... SmartTop will probably be the second thing I add. I think I can agree to Derek Jeter being a better Yankee. -

POST 19Original post

congrats dude - she's a beaut, and I totally agree with all your point in the 993 v 996 / Jeter v A-Rod analogy the only thing I didn't agree with is the wait! fly out there and bring her home!
