This is a quite provocative statement from a test of German's Autobild between a 997 Carrera and a BMW 135i. What do you think? One of their conclusions was: The BMW manages turns, the Porsche loves them.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I seriously doubt the BMW has the same feel as the 997, in fact I would bet it doesn't. Every BMW I've driven (and I've owned a 328ic for 4 years) feels completely different than my 996's and not in a better way.
I heard that the 1 series is a stripped down 3 series, basically it is 1/3rd of it in regards to comfort etc., but the power plant stays the same (i.e. a 135i has the same engine as the 335i). Now that makes the 1 series a tuner car for sure now. But if the question is 'does it stack-up against a Porsche C2 out of the box', the answer has to be a no except it has bigger back seats.
Weight of 335i: 3570 Weight of 135i: 3440 I was ready for a lightweight BMW with a lot of power. Instead they give us a shortened 3-series with almost all the weight intact. Ridiculous.

WOW
I was thinking it would be around 3k pounds too. Too bad.

You're absolutely right! BMW just builts too heavy cars. BMW Germany shows the EU spec weight even closer: 335i 3,556 lbp 135i 3,467 lbp Even a Z4 M Coupe has less weight than the new "baby bimmer" 135i (3,322 lbp) although this is still quite a bit more than a 996 C2.

My wife has the 335i and although it's fast (and new), I prefer the drive and feel of my 996. -td
The Lotus Elise/Exige is half the price and the same (if not more) fun!

Exactly. I loved my BMW, I have nothing but great things to say about it, in fact I ordered the 330ic when it was introduced but due to engine problems early in the production they halted new orders. It's a great car, and I love them, but it's not going to feel like a 997, never.
