Ok folks, just a little update on my install. First and most importantly, a BIG Thank You to Chuck Jones and MFletch. The mod'd cans ultimately came from Chuck by way of MFletch. Chuck had them mod'd by the Master FisterD and then the car was sold to MFletch. SOooooo, I got the mod'd cans from MFletch and the EVO CIA directly from Chuck. You know how some people say that a used car has had the BUGS worked out of it by the time you get it...... well these USED parts arrived in perfect TUNED condition by their respective donors. Anyway, it took me weeks to be able to get to the project but an afternoon under the tub and Voillla the sounds and smells of a mod'd exhaust are brightening up my day now. I will not labor the point that this mod is EVERYTHING that has already been said but I just can't imagine a car like this without it. Thanks again to everyone envolved. I am passing on some tip in the attached pix. The key I think is the pair of SNAP RING PLIERS in the pic. Just get them at SEARS Craftsman and it will make the job much easier. Look, learn and enjoy your own mod. Respectfully, eric

Congrats on the install and thanks for the pics - this is on next years mod list... I am totally jealous, I am sure it sounds awesome!
Eric - contrats! They sound great don't they? It sure does look like the snap ring pliers does make rempving the tips MUCH easier.
whats teh diffrence between MK1 and MK2 cans?
Quotes source post: 4743572
The only "outside" difference is that the MK II (3.6L) cans have the accordion pipe and the MK I (3.4L) cans doe not. The pic shows the MK II cona on the right and the MK I can on the left, which has teh MK II mod already added. The two versions do have a different sound whem modded, but I don't know why.
Quotes source post: 4743976
Tim, I was told the two have a different internal baffle structure. I can't confirm as I have never opened one up. However, they do sound different.
I had this mod done to my '02 a couple weeks ago. Curious why you removed the rear bumper to remove/install them? I was able to get mine off quite easily by just removing the wheels.
Quotes source post: 4744267
Not necessary to remove the rear bumper but it makes it easier. I removed my exhaust w/o removing the bumper but on a lift. Everything's easier on a lift.
Eric, it's nice to see you got the mufflers and CAI installed. Don't they sound incredible? I'm glad you like them. It was a pleasure doing business with you....thanks. I can't wait to get my project 996 fired up with all the mods. It should be a lot of fun. Knowing it's going to need a clutch soon makes it tempting to upgrade the clutch and go for a LWFW. Any advice?
Quotes source post: 4744924
If you decide on the LWFW, call UltraRev.com. I got mine for $750 last week. It shows a much higher price online so you have to call them.

Mark - I think Chuck has already "fired up" your project!
Hey guys, Where can I find instruction to do the exhaust mod for 3.6 ? Thanks
The Mk I real PSE ( Porsche Sports Exhaust ) has the accordian pipe. Here's mine for reference.: The bypass pipe is smaller than the Mk II.

Jake, Here's the offical thread that has all of the information you need: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=54027
Tim: I've told you before...and now once again...you have a perverse sense of humor. I wish you'd stay on schedule when taking your meds...

Meds??? Yeah, I'm taking my "meds!"
Hey guys - back! I wrote this thread on my laptop at the airport waiting for a flight and I just got back. I love seeing the old "chat around the camp fire" kind-of-look to things here. This really is a great forum. I guess the reason I took the back faring off is that I love to tinker and when someone said, ........OH you can remover the back bumper cover...... I was all about that. Was easy, fun and just a little informative. Not to mention the pretty badly cut thumb from the tail light while trying to get the cantilevered piece in below the deck lid - Oh Well. - geeee I got a lot of blood on the bumper cover - car wash did that wonders. I actually did the job last Sunday but did not get to hear the car from outside till Thursday when my wife drove away and I told her to stand on it. I really like them vibes. I gotta say, this little ol' buggy is really comin together - thanks to the support of this 996 forum. She is always getting some young dreamer in a Chevy trying to race her and this really gives her a kick. I KNOW TIM, BUT IT IS DARK AND LATE - I WILL GET PIX LATER AND POST THEM - ok? It has taken on quite a different look these days. Thanks again to everyone, Mark you are really a class act. The best to you my friend. eric

I guess I'm getting a reputation! OK OK, I guess I have had a reputation for a long time, but I love it! There ARE worse reputations to have you know! As soon as I think of one, I'll let you know.
Quotes source post: 4747338
Reputation?? I ain't got to show you no stinking reputation. Considering the fact that it is even in your sig panel, this is not some reputation we are talking about - this is a way of life! And we LOVE it. You are the guy that puts the glue in this forum and you encourage us to add the spice to information transfer which is the life of this great meeting place. OK, enough! I sure hope you find a way to return often if you should happen to part ways with the marque. Oh Well. Just wanted to let you know that I do think about posting pix and it is because of you. Thanks for the inspiration. Hmmmm, gotta find a place to shoot the car and ..... I wonder what I did with that battery charger for the camera. I will work on it. eric
