I need to remove the rear center console in my 2000 C2 and I can't figure out how to unhook the leather shift boot(the piece of leather that wraps around the stick shift) in order to get to the screws underneath it. I looked at the instructions on the B & M website for installing their short shift kit but the pictures on the web site do not match my car. The shift boot shown in the B & M instructions has a metal or plastic ring around it, which you pull up to unhook it. My car does not have this extra piece, which I believe is only on later model cars. On my car, the leather shift boot simply butts up against the console. Do you simply pry the shift boot up? TIA for any help.

I *think* there is a clip thingie that you can unhook at the base of the shift boot. It's located at the rear of the shift boot. If you push your finger against it you can feel it, and I think you just unsnap it upward, then the whole boot comes loose. These are the worst instructions in the world, but I think you'll see what I mean when you start messing with it.
There should be 4 clips - 2 toward the rear and 2 more in the front (1 on each side). Simply slide a plastic spatula (I stole one from the kitchen which now resides permanently in the garage - hee hee) under the rear of the boot and lift up, gently twisting the spatula. After the first clip releases, the other 3 will follow with a little more lifting.
Thanks for the help guys. Now I just need to buy a T-20 and a T-30 Torx wrench and I will be good to go.
