Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently purchased a 996 c2. Was on the highway when i was provoked by a seriously mean m3, we both pushed the cars and i was about 3 car lenghts ahead and that was from 70 km to 140 km, i dont know what porsche performance numbers are nor iam familiar with the M3. Maybe he missed a gear or something. What does porsche claim 0-60 or quarter mile and top speed. Has anyone beat those numbers? Also was tempted by a vette looked like the recent model but not that z06, he pushed the car and i could say he was faster, traffic ended it all How do we compare to those types of machines ?

POST 2Original post

From what I've read, should be a little faster than the pre-08 M3 and pretty even against a C5 Vette. The newer C6 is faster, but then again so is the 997... don't have the numbers handy, sorry. Anyone else chime in.

POST 3Original post

This website purports to have performance data for the 1999-2001 911 Carrera series from Porsche as well as Road and Track and Car and Driver: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/porsche-911-history37.htm I don't have old copies of C & D or R & T laying around - it would be interesting to verify. If accurate, a 0-60 of 4.6 seconds, a 1/4 of 13.4 seconds, and a top speed of 174 for the 6-speed 2C isn't bad. How does that compare to an E46 M3? I don't want to go there ...

POST 4Original post

An E46 M3 should be doing 0-60 in 4.8secs. I think BMW quotes it at 5, but they're notoriously conservative with factory figures. IIRC, the factory figures for a 99-01 Carrera are 0-60 5.0secs, and 169mph top speed, but Porsche is conservative with their numbers as well.

POST 5Original post

i was dead even with an E46 M3 from 150-260kph. M3 had a flywheel and chip, i had some weight reduction and bypass pipes but a hugely unaerodynamic wing on the back. only thing you need to watch out for in a drag race are tuned american cars...and twin turbo japanese cars from the 90's.
