Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Left work this evening - car suddenly had a very rough idle, and within a few minutes had a flashing check engine light. Home is nearby, so I got there and turned the car off immediately. Seems like the odometer/clock/etc panels under the gauge cluster have varying brightness w/the rough idle, however my headlights were also on and I didn't notice it with them (it's also not completely dark and I wasn't driving long, though, so it could have been occurring). Started the car again briefly to see if I could notice more. From the outside, it sounds like a steady-but-bad clicking noise from the engine area. Rev above idle and it seems to be fine&smooth. This time, the CEL was on steady, rather than flashing..? Also, I had the coolant expansion tank replaced as well as the fuel filter (about 4 days ago)... they said the fuel was not looking hot, but thought that by catching the bad filter now they prevented any issues. The tank was flushed and I have had several days of flawless driving since (and there were no symptoms of this before going in. Bad alternator or nightmare from bad fuel/bad fuel filter? Should I attempt the 15-20 minute drive to the dealer, or have it towed in the morning? Thanks Michael 01 996 C4

POST 2Original post

get it towed... that flashing CEL sounds scary. I would think worst case scenerio with dealers. You want to do the right thing and not give them any excuse to screw you out of a warranty or something.

POST 3Original post

have it towed....I have AAA and they tow it for free..I know towing can be expensive...but a new engine is way more expensive. Hope it is nothing bad!! How many miles on your P?? Keep us updated

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
