I recently got my new to me 996 road worthy and finally took it on a tight bumpy mountain road (2nd and 3rd gear) where I think Porsches really shine. By bumpy I mean smooth bumps, not pot holes and expansion joints. I have been wrenching and fixing here and there for 6 months. One thing I did was rebuild the suspension and install the Ohlins stuff.....fussed with the alignment etc. Anyway, I am happy as a clam with the performance (damping set on 8 out) It handles the wrinkles uphill , downhill, like it has magnets to the earth. It def works better than my past cars.....and yet the spring rates are so high......go figure

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Pretty timely post as I'm literally gathering all my tools to start the install today!
Annes Ohlins get consistently good reviews. How does it ride? Mine is a daily so I dont want a stiff, unforgiving ride but do want to lower 1 or so.

Its stiff but it's not harsh. harsh is when there's too much high speed damping. high speed meaning high shaft speed like you get when you hit an expansion joint.
I want Ohlins but I want to do a few other things and with the Feals being over $1000 cheaper, might make me go that route.
Ive had Ohlins for about 2 years now, driven on street and track, and just completed the recall for the fronts with the Elephant camber plates and monoballs. I like the adjustability so anyone can fine tune the ride for their preference. I think the company is committed to customer service based on my experience with the recall and the quality is excellent. Thats why I bought them, not because they provide better handling characteristics than another companys performance strut.
I have the ohlins road and track suspension and have to admit its amazing. It transformed the car. It's what the car always should have been for me. Pared with an Alcantara steering wheel and shifter also adds to the experience.
Good to hear about their customer service! I just finished my install and lowered the car to the ground. I'll provide my review in my car's thread but the quality and finish on these is top notch. One thing that pushed me in the Ohlins direction is height adjustment that is independent of spring preload. I cant stress how important this is and contributes to good ride quality. You need a good amount of suspension stroke and when that is removed by lowering the car you're left with a harsher ride. One thing to note, there were a few measurement discrepancies between the directions that came in the box and what's on line. The on-line instructions are what you want.

If you compare the old instructions to the newer ones, they just increased the pre-load to 5mm from 2mm...... I think I recall

I think that might have been one of the things but upon checking again the placement of the end link mount on the rear shocks was quite different as well as the height for the front shocks. I'm glad I decided to compare the directions!
