What are valid reasons for somebody to delete the AWD part of these great cars? He has done so with something from Durametrics?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Need more information. Some people remove the front axles and diff to save some weight, and removing the components reduces maintenance. I don't think Durametric has anything to do with it.
Making a C4 into a C2 sounds goofy. Wouldn't the guy have been better off selling the C4 and then buying a C2, saving him expense as well as making more money with the C4 sale?
The C4 has a stiffer tub - it is the preferable 2WD chassis as well oddly enough.
Also you can't get a widebody C2.
True, and that's a factor, but what I'm reading suggests that the costs kind of balance with other benefits? What does it do the price of one of them?
They are easily converted back to AWD as long as you retain the differential, etc so I'm not sure what impact it has on FMV.

Good point, and note to self to ask seller if he kept the take-offs. Thanks.
Many 996 turbo owners do the AWD to RWD conversion. I bought a used front differential for $300 from a RL tt owner when my 4S original began leaking and making noise. New ones are stupid expensive and refurbishing cost about a grand.
I converted my Carrera 4 to RWD. It is indeed reversible. I wanted a lighter car and tend to prefer RWD but honestly I think my nod might be for the AWD system after giving it a year. At first, my seat of the pants response was positive but over time I think Ive swayed a little. Both are good.
Is it an immediate difference? I thought I'd have trouble getting the C4S sideways, but it's no problem at all. I was planning to do the conversion, but after some sideways time I've decided against it.
