Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just picked up a 2000 996. The manual says the oil pressure gauge should read 3.5 at 5,000 RPM, however mine is up near 5 at 5,000 RPM. In fact, its nearly always over 4, even when I'm at lower RPM (e.g., 3,000). It seems to me that having low pressure would be a much worse problem than having high pressure - still, I'm curious to find out if this is a problem. Any help would be much appreciated. -J

POST 2Original post

Your readings look to be normal to me. Mine are similar.

POST 3Original post

Was the engine warmed up when you experienced these high readings? The oil pressure reading will be higher on a cold engine. BTW, welcome to Rennlist!!!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks to everyone for the quick response and the warm welcome to Rennlist. This was my first posting so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Sounds like I've got a fairly normal oil pressure reading. Thanks again for the diagnosis. -J

Where is Tim to give Jake "the greeting?" Welcome

POST 7Original post

JAke - Welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on getting the '00 996. It is customary for "newbies" to tell us a little about their car and post a couple of Pics. Once you have 5 of more posts, you can upload some pics, 'cuz we LOVE pics! chsu74 - how did I do?

POST 9Original post

Tim, as usual! Jake welcome friend. Im glad to see your already a member, the site will pay for itself in no time. Many times other members suggestions save money, many times they cost money (bad influences). But without a doubt the knowledge here is unprecedented and the most valuable part is when you are wondering if something is wrong with your car, many have experienced it and probably dealt with it. Getting rid of that uncertainty is the most valuable part IMO!!! Now lets see some $%#&ing pics of your baby! Cheers
