Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, I had one of those super close calls this morning. I was just about 3 blocks from home after having dropped off my kids at daycare. I am cruising along at 50 mph on my way back home. Waiting at the entrance to a retirement community is a battered battleship grey oldsmobuik and as I am about to go past he pulls out slowly into my lane and stops. Lucky for me 1) it had not started raining yet and 2) my car is still wearing my MPSC R compound tires because I applied full brake straight into him and about 10-15 feet away when I was still going 25-30 mph I gave up on the brakes and cranked hard to the right and managed to shoot in where he was coming from and end up stopped on his passenger side. I know that if I had my street tires I would never have been able to scrub off speed that fast and then have the car turn and stay stable. Talk about giving someone a heart attack. The old guy then just pulls along and goes left. I was soo pissed I revved it and gunned it out of there making quite a scene. Anyway... talk about luck. I'll take it anytime I get it. Have a great day everyone... thankfully I am off to the track Sat and Sun with a car that is still in one piece !!!

It always amazes me that the difference between an accident, and a near-accident can be a fraction of a second - and often is. You miss one light, and that Buick pulls away, and you never have the encounter. It's important to stay alert and drive cautiously, but a lot of it is pure fate!

POST 6Original post

Nice save!!! The old guy probably never had a clue. That can be soooo irritating!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, racked my nerves for sure. Old gent hardly new what had happened. Thankfully both of my kids were safe at daycare and not in the car for the wild ride. Although knowing them they would have probably thought it was fun.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wish.... I was so friggin pissed. And then the cute blonde in the del sol that was flirting with me a few lights back caught up and gave a "WTF just happened" look. LOL

POST 10Original post

OLD people and cars....one day we are going to be THEM.....when my father-in-law drives...he is 73.....I think we have a near accident every 500 feet or so.....luckily he sees me fling all the time and now hands me the keys.....PFFFF.

THat reminds me of a saying some Rennlister had in his sig. It whet something like this: When I die, I want to go just like my Grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep, not screaming and yelling like his passenger did!
