Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello. I was at the track Friday and I noticed that my fuel gauge was pegged at full. It is a C4 and even when I fill it it reads about 3/4. This was a little time after I filled up. I watched it and it remained pegged full. On the way home I noticed the needle go to full empty and the low fuel indicator came on. After a few seconds it would return to full. I really have have no clue. Where do I begin? thanks lang

I had this problem recently. I stupidly caused this problem by overfilling the tank (because I was being obsessively about measuring my gas mileage) which wrecked the sending unit to gauge and destroyed the fuel tank breather valve; both of which my dealer replaced. It was a $1200 mistake! Fixing the gauge required the installation of of new fuel tank sensor. I was told that they had to empty and drop the tank and then remove the fuel pump and sensor assembly to do this. Don't know exactly how it's done but but I'm sure someone here can provide instructions (or links to the same) if you want to do it yourself. Good luck!
