Recently I had my rear lid motor on my 2001 911 996 cabriolet go bad. So I ordered the parts from a Porsche dealer in Maryland. He told me based on my vin number I needed some extra parts/brackets because of course the old motor was superseded by a newer one. One I received the parts it became obvious that the bracket sent to mount the new motor was vastly different. I suspect it may work for a newer 996 or 997. Since I could not attach the new bracket to the frame that supported the motor and hydraulic pump because the location of the mount was quite different I was left to alter the bracket and attach it to the original one so it would align correctly. The wiring plug was the same. The microswitch for the lid lock was totally different. It did mount correctly on the rack once I removed the old bracket. It too had the correct plug for the harness. I had to attach the center part of the bracket sent to me to the original one. This was all dome when I removed it from the car. Once completed and reinstalled the motor mounted up correctly. I have to say it was an adventure but came out good and worked perfectly. Being a machinist with a shop at home helped a lot. i will attempt to attach some pictures of this job. It was not that hard once I determined the course of action with the bracket.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
