Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Posting in this forum because it gets more traffic than the Boxster forum. I had my local indy shop install the Bilt Racing LN 2 quart deep sump with baffle on my 986. Now I want to transfer the deep sump kit to my Cayman which is the new track car. https://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin...command=lookup I removed every bolt and separated the gasket, but the pan won't come off! It's like it is being held in place by the baffle. edit - i can wiggle the sump plate about 1/8" fore/aft and side to side, but it won't drop down. How do I remove the sump plate and the spacer?

POST 2Original post

Can't offer any advice, but maybe these photos will help. I'll be dropping mine in a few weeks. Only 80 more of the 500 mile break-in left.

POST 3Original post

Should try two heel bars and work down evenly.

POST 4Original post

+1 for gentle prying. Be ready to catch it when it drops or give it a soft landing place.

POST 5Original post

Sharpend putty knife to break the seslant free.

POST 6Original post

As shown in the photos above, if you're trying to remove the sump plate first without separating the spacer from the block mating surface you're going to have a tough time. The baffle is bolted to the sump plate, through the anti-slosh tray, which is held in by the spacer. Separate the spacer from the block surface first and it should come right down.

POST 7Original post

Tap it with a rubber or plastic mallet is my recommendation. If you auto tool kit doesnt have rubber or replaceable tip mallets, consider shopping.

those photos are exactly what I need! Thanks! I can't drop it because the sump plate is bolted to the baffle, as shown. the pry bars and rubber mallet won't work - if I keep prying I'll break the baffle. So I need to loosen the spacer from the case and then it should all come loose.

POST 9Original post

When I installed mine, I noted the hard rubber strips on the edges of the X51 baffle were a snug fit against the inside of the engine case. They may offer some resistance when you try to wiggle the sump assembly down.
