Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi folks, Asking this question for a friend, who is looking to buy but really wants a widebody. Does anyone know which 996 models are widebody vs. narrowbody? TIA.

POST 4Original post

01-05 Turbo 02-05 C4S That's it in the 996 line.

POST 5Original post

just curious, but isn't the GT2 a widebody too?

POST 6Original post

GT2 is in the Turbo family. Maybe I should have elaborated. Turbo (Standard Turbo, Turbo S, GT2)

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. Glad I checked. I was thinking all C4 models were widebodies.

POST 9Original post

Why, the best 996 is a GT3 and its based on a narrow body...

POST 10Original post

Agreed and a GT3 would be my first choice, but in the meantime I wish my C4 was a C4S......

POST 11Original post

Good quesstion, I am looking to buy C4S also.

POST 12Original post

I am working on a s-t-r-e-t-c-h 996. However, the stretch will be side-to-side, not front-to-back. Here is a pic of it. Notice it has dual wheels on the rear!

POST 13Original post

Hey Tim, gonna tow your boat with that thing?

POST 14Original post

I was behind a 997 Targa 4S the other day and I swear that car looked that wide!

POST 15Original post

Nah, gonna tow my 30-foot mobile home to the infield a Lowe's Motor Speedway which is about 6 miles from my house, so I can join the red neck Bubbas, get drunk before the start of the race, throw up all over myself, pass out and miss the entire race! What a weekend! On second thought... NOT!

POST 17Original post

In the 997 line the base model, S, and GT3 are narrow body. The C4, C4S, Targa4, Targa4S, TT, and GT3RS are wide body.

POST 18Original post

I think that the 997's are wider than the 996's. Are the wide body 997's wider than the 996's, and if so by how much?

POST 19Original post

Sorry, I meant to say........wider than the 996 wide body?

POST 20Original post

997's are wider in ALL trims than their counterparts in the 996 line. Not sure though if the Narrow 997 is wider than the widebody 996. I am sure it is close though.

POST 21Original post

996 widebody is 15/16" wider than 997 narrow body.

POST 22Original post

And, 997 widebody is 13/16" wider than 996 widebody. 997 narrowbody is 1-1/2" wider than 996 narrowbody.

POST 25Original post

Thanks for the info Kevin. Always knew that the 997's were wider, but did not know how much the 997 wide body was wider than its counterpart.

POST 27Original post

New reality car show I AM GOING TO S-T-R-E-T-C-H Y-O-U-R-R-I-D-E Discovery Channel Tuesdays at 9:00pm Eastern Way to go Tim

POST 28Original post

kevin... what's the length of the 997 to the 996? they look shorter.. i like the look more.....

POST 29Original post

Smile, 997 C2 is 1/8" (3mm) shorter than 996 C2.

POST 30Original post

So, now we know what are wide-bodies, but do we know why there are wide- and narrow-bodies around? Ah, I know! To fit the average American kid on the back seat of the P car!

POST 31Original post

Too bad this Top Gear classic is no longer on You Tube. It provided all the explanation you need: "This is Sharon, okay? She's all woman, she is the 911 Turbo. Now, standing next to her is Vicky. Now Vicky, on the surface, appears to be exactly the same, but this is a body kit. Vicky's been enhanced, and so, consequently, is the C4S. And, moving along, we find Amanda. Amanda is the Carrera 4. Enough of a handful for most people. Your choice."

POST 32Original post

ML....great episode! I totally remember that one. You should be able to find it on Final Gear.com
