Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Just got my new babe on Valentine day !

POST 2Original post

Great interior!! Nice looking car! Does that wheel have an airbag?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Reid. Yes it's airbag, I remove it from my 993. It's a manual wheel, so I'll need to add 2 buttons behind for the tiptronic.

POST 4Original post

That must have set you back a smaller fortune considering the car prices in Singapore!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well... a 1998 996 in Singapore would cost US$110K, which you could buy a 996TT or a GT2 ?

POST 7Original post

Congrats, turbo138! I can only imagine owning a P in Spore or Msia. 1998 996 in Singapore for US$110K.....I thought it would have cost more? Would you have to "trash" it after 3 more years? OR pay a hefty fee to keep it? Are you Singaporean, or an expat?

POST 8Original post

Nice car! I went to Singapore a couple times while in the Navy. I was on the USS DRUM (SSN 677) submarine, btw. We had a blast there. Singapore is a very beautiful city - cleanest place ever. Even the "bad" side of town is nice and clean. I think chewing gum was outlawed there, or there was a huge fine if caught chewing it, because they didn't want that crap polluting the streets. The cheapest place we found beer, was $35.00 a pitcher (Tiger Beer of course). That equated to something like $25 american dollars at the time I think. Some places charged $70 a pitcher, but those were cool clubs so it was worth it. We had lots of spending money so all we did was spend it on beer and girls. When you are underwater for weeks or months at a time, you will spend whatever it takes.

POST 9Original post

i love that steering wheel...... looks like Gembella....?

POST 10Original post

Congratulations on a very nice car! I spent about 5 weeks in Sinapore and absolutley loved it there. I think it was about $8 for a glass of beer about 8-9 yrs ago, but that didn't slow me down too much...

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Guys for your comments. I didn't know many of you have been to Singapore. Yes car prices drop during the last 2 years, a brand new 996 C2 used to cost US$330K. Now a new 997 C2 would cost US$250K which is still very high. Comos, I am Singaporean. Well you don't have to trash your car, but you'll need to pay for a "certificate of entitlement" (COE) to drive the car for 10 years, it can cost as high as US$60K just on the COE !! Fortunately, COE is currently at record low US$4K. Hey if you guys are coming to Singapore, please drop me a line, we'll try to meet up for a beer. Have a great week ahead !! Patrick

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ElTorrente, no prob..... I know where we can get beer at very low price. We can even arrange for some nice babe.... hahaa !!

POST 14Original post

Wow and I thought Hong Kong was bad with their 125% sales tax on the chassis! I traveled to Hong Kong on business a couple of weeks back. Wandered into the Porsche dealership on Hong Kong Island and saw a 2007 997 Carrera 4S for $1.7M HK dollars. Or about $218K USD.

POST 15Original post

Very nice!! Congratulations!! Whats that thing on the dash board? Is that a toll express pass, rdar detector or laser jammer? I was just there in Sing 4 mos ago. my 5th time. stayed righ by Orchard rd. Love the place specially the food and of course the night life!!!! ...and talk about exotic cars! Ive nevre seen so many gallardos running up and down Orchard.

POST 17Original post

Hi Patrick, I'm also in Singapore but with my GT3 back home in Sweden. In Singapore I'm still rather lucky driving a Subaru Legacy GT Wagon. Cheers J.

POST 18Original post

i'm more curious about that unusual gate surrounding the even more odd-looking manual transmission lever/****. never saw that before is that local to Singapore? very nice-looking car and color combo!

POST 19Original post

The thing in the window is for the road toll.

POST 20Original post

I think that's for toll, if I remember well, radar detectors are illegal in Spore.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mr C4 & Comos, Thanks, you've answered all the questions.... hahaa. Mr C4, drop me a email, we'll meet up for a drink ya ? Hey, there are many friendly people here, I owned two 930s then changed to 993. Just sold my 993 & now 996, it such a pleasure to drive !! Now I asked myself why am I stuck with the air cool engine for so long believing that it is a better car than the 996 ? True that the 993 has it's character, I still miss the power of the 3.8RS engine, but the 996 is so easy & comfortable to drive. Well, with regard to the headlights, I encounter one small problem with my 996. I stopped at the traffic light yesterday & there was this Cayman in front of me. When the lights turn green, he throttled & spin off to show me his power thinking that I'm driving a Boxster !! (I just felt very funny & told my wife "let him be... we don't show-off or disturb our fellow Porsche drivers..... hahaa") Have anyone converted your headlights to the newer 996 lights?

POST 23Original post

the January 2007 issue of European Car has a long-term 996 mod project. they did the face-lift conversion with all oem parts, and i believe it cost approximately $7K USD-- labor not included. they said it was as easy bolt-on job. It's about $2k less without litronics. they have all the necessary part numbers listed, from the $16.40 bumper retainer brackets to the $77.73 license plate light harness. imo, for that money (what, $10k or so with labor), i'd put a down payment on a genuine face-lifted C4S or something.

POST 24Original post

Owning a Porsche in Singapore is like going to the strip club. You have a great car but just a tease cause you have very few open roads, speed cameras on most hwys and the freaking traffic....just bad. Take a drive across the boarder to Johore, maybe able to have some fun there. Enjoy

POST 25Original post

There are tracks you can use in Malaysia as well.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh yes, I drive to Malaysia quite offen & it's great driving at the Sepang F1 track !! The Porsche club here have many drives & events, there is a yearly drive to Thailand about 3000 km drive & it feels great !!
