Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finally lost the "black, plastic brake thing" that is under the car, in front of the brake duct. What is it called or what it the part number to go get both of them replaced. Are they even necessary? Not a whole lot to them, but I guess the folks at Porsche wouldnt have put them there if not.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since there are no comments as of yet, let me try to clarify. This is a little black "dam" looking piece. its about 8" wide and 2" tall. It installs just infront of the opening at the underside of the front of the car that provides extra cooling to the brakes. I hope this helps so I can shop for their replacement. Thanks

POST 3Original post

I lost the same piece a few months ago. I went to a Porsche wrecking yard and asked for the "little black piece that is screwed into the front wheel well" and they knew exatly what I was talking about. I never did find out what the name of it was though, sorry.

POST 4Original post

It's just called a brake duct. Some people upgrade to GT3 brake ducts but I remeber a post saying they don't really add any extra cooling on a non-GT3. You can get the GT3 ducts from carnewal.

Here are the part numbers: 996 504 603 00 (L) 996 504 604 00 (R) They were $9.80 each from Sunset Imports when I bought them earlier this year.

POST 6Original post

In my country its called the "mata perro". (Dog killer) Sad eh.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

AC Thanks!! Yep, I found it with the part #'s. They are called "Fender Liner Air Guides!!" FYI to the masses.

POST 10Original post

It is number 4 & number 8 Or number 7 & 8, air duct and rubber lip

POST 11Original post

That's it. Just replaced mine also. I think they exist mainly to vent air as it leaves the radiator. Hold your hand under them when the radiatior fans are on and you'll see what I mean.

Pelican Parts $13 each. http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...BDYext_pg2.htm

POST 14Original post

Beware that there different versions of the air duct and lip depending on year and model (c2, c4, etc.) of the car.
