Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Most 996s I see have the badging letters saying "Carrera" on the back under the wing. Some others say "911". Are the 911 ones factory or someone do that aftermarket? If factory, why the difference?

POST 2Original post

911 are usually special edition models, could also be aftermarket. Im sure others will chime in on this

POST 3Original post

I *think* the only 996 to have "911" on the back was the 40th Anniversary special. Other than that you can of course take a hairdryer to your existing badge to prise it off and stick on a new one - if you are so inclined......

POST 4Original post

My avatar is the stock badge on my '00 Millennium Edition. I believe this and the 40th Anniversary Edition were the only two models that had this badging as stock. I've seen them available from Eagle Day and maybe Suncoast.

POST 5Original post

This is correct. I have the "911" script on my car ('02 C2 996), but it came stock with the "Carrera" script. I purchased the new badge from Suncoast.

POST 6Original post

Correct, the 911 script was on the 00 Millenium Ed and 04 Anny ed. But as far as which one is proper, they both are. The script can be purchased at the dealer for about $20.

POST 7Original post

Mine says 996 just like my avatar. Only it's in black.

POST 8Original post

BTW in terms of batchs on the back - another very important detail: As (cheep) part of the 02 facelift, Porsche moved the batch from above the bend to below the bend of the hood. And, as they couldn't decide on this detail for the 997 (facelift), the just removed the bend in the hood.

POST 9Original post

So how did the badging come for the Carrera 4 version of the 911? Was it: 911 4 911 - 4 OR Did the 4 just get dropped? thanks, Amir

POST 10Original post

If I'm not mistaken, the Millennium Edition had the "911" (first pic) but the 40th Anniv edition had the "911" underlined (second pic). Subtle but different.

POST 11Original post

I have a 99 911, and it has the factory 911 on the rear of the car. I am the second owner. Does this mean the previous owner replaced it. Were there any 99s with 911 on the tail?

POST 12Original post

Michael, the previous owner had to of added it. No cars came with the 911 badge other than those already listed in this thread (00 Millenium Ed and the 04 Ann Ed)

POST 13Original post

I guess thats cool, a mod I didnt have to pay for.

POST 15Original post

Both the Millennium edition and the Anniversary edition only came in a C2. FWIW there's a guy who works for Homeland Security who put the 911 badge on his car after 9-11.

POST 17Original post

Not to make this a "what is a Millennium Edition?" thread, but they were all C4's. Only 911 were produced worldwide. The only difference being 6-speed manual or Tiptronic. I have seen somewhere that ~360 were imported into the USA. Mine is #306/911. Nothing exclusive about them mechanically. 3.4L, 300bhp, C4, USA M030 sport suspension, sport exhaust.

POST 18Original post

Ahhh my bad, I should know that too since a friend had one. Wood accents in the interior and that violet-chroma-flare paint that looks so different in different light. Then the 911 4 is a valid qustion.

POST 19Original post

I think I'm gonna put this badge on the rear of my car!

POST 20Original post

Since we're talking about badges, does anyone here have a C4S that has the 'Carrera 4S' script in chrome? I'm really only interested in the 'Carrera' portion of the script, since the 'S' is always in a contrasting color. If so, then I'd assume the script is readily available through a dealer?

POST 21Original post

And confirmed in Wikipedia.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_996 "Porsche made available a special edition of the 996 for the year 2000. The company introduced the car as "The 911 for the Millennium" and based it on the Carrera 4 coupe. Only 911 were made." thanks, Amir

POST 22Original post

Eric the Plug Guy can probably make one for you if none are available at the dealer.

POST 25Original post

Even the 'Plug King' couldn't do his magic on chroming the badge (I already tried).
