The car is a 2002 Carrera 2 (3.6L). The redline is marked from 7,000 to 8,000 RPM. When is the fuel shut off? What is considered an over rev? I've noticed that when I am winding the car up fast and shift at about 7,000 RPM that the revs will continue to climb for a second after I am off the gas and cluch in as I select the next gear. Is this a function of the "drive by wire" system? In other cars I have never noticed this. Will this constitute an over-rev? Will the computer be recording these? Is there a way to find out over-rev info with out an OBDII scan tool? Andy

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

the electronic tachs are far from accurate, they are usually slow, in any car. the car will register over revs when it hits the limiter, there no way to check them without a scan tool you not hurtying anythign hitting the limiter thats why iots there its a saftey feature and shuts off the engine beofre you hurt anything
Type I ( hitting the rev limiter ) over revs are fine. I've had the fuel shut off at about 7200-7300 rpms. It's the Type II over revs ( missed down shift ) that can cause warranty problems, etc.
