Was that an option for Europe? I came across a realy nice early 996 near Bath U.K. It had a GT3 body, but a 996 badge (If I remember right - if it had been a GT3 badge I wouldn't have walked away wondering). Looked really low-slung and cool. If so, was this an "everything but the engine" option for the 996?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's the Aero kit option. You could then lower the car & give it a GT3 look, but that's where the similarities end. Lot more differences between the C2 & GT3 than aero & motor (chassis, suspension, brakes, tranny, etc).
That Aero Kit is different that the U.S. spec care Aero Kit, right? The U.S. has those tacky rear quarter panel things.
Not sure what you mean re: the rear 1/4, but US spec 996 Aero is my avatar.
I'm not too knowledgeable about the aero kits, but I thought I had seen a few 996's advertised as having aero kits, and in the photos there were small panels that look as though they are bolted on to the rear fenders - where the vents would be on the turbos and C4Ss. Those tack-on pieces break up the smooth lines of the car and look like they don't belong. Your photo shows just the smooth panel, which I like - like the one I saw in Bath. Thanks.
Here is an example of what I meant:
I think he is talking about the skirts behind the rear wheels.
