Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im in the process of trying to drop my engine and tiptronic. i've been pulling off whats described in that 101 projects book( fantastic book btw).. all was going smoothly until I tried to remove the ac compressor. It seems to have 2 hoses attached to the rear of the compressor that go underneath the intake manifold. I did some searching on the site and came up with this link .. the pictures are of my car.. guessing its the same thing, but what is it? https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ompressor.html

You do not need to remove the ac compressor hoses to drop the engine. Undo the 3 bolts (the back one is a real bitch to get to) and just lay the compressor to the side of the engine bay. The hoses from the ac compressor should not be routed under the intake manifold. Here is a picture of mine with engine out (ac compressor is turn sideways to tie it to the body for storage). I have also found the Bentley manual and a subscription to alldatadiy.com to be very valuable in my work (along with the workshop manual).

With your particular variation (2000) , you have a "fuel cooler" integral to the A/C low pressure line that interferes with the removal of the rear (front) compressor bolt. In that instance I always just drain and seal the A/C system and remove the hoses from the compressor, leaving the compressor until after the intake is removed. Some people will struggle and remove the fuel cooler and leave the A/C hoses intact to save from recharging the system, but when you do it for a living, every minute counts, and recharging the system is not very time consuming. (you can do other things while the machine is doing the work).
