Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm looking for a bit more engine volume, but a lot of threads I see indicate that on these cars (2002 996) opening up the exhaust side without doing something on the intake side can reduce power. I'm surprised I haven't been able to find this with the search function, but is there an exhaust for this car that helps or at least doesn't hurt power?

I have Fister mufflers on mine with no loss to power and the perfect amount of sound! FDMotorsports = Fister

POST 3Original post

Yep,, if you sort of look for copies of the Porsche Sport exhaust,, it seems like its common/popular..

+1 on the Fister mufflers. I have them on my 99. Love them sound great, especially on the track ... the owner (darin) answers the phone when you call, and is really helpful.

POST 5Original post

+1 Fister. Not really that noticeable at low throttle (maybe a little louder/growlier towards idle). As soon as you hit throttle it really lets you know it.

About 8 years ago...I started to have a sweet sound:

It's possible, but, perhaps rare to pickup some power without additional modifications. In my case, I was able to get 22whp/12wtq with my custom exhaust system. This did, however, come at a compromise. The exhaust is incredibly loud and has a low rpm drone with light throttle applications. Mike
