YpSo I did a fun little project. Ill probably catch some heat for it but I did it because I like it. I can make them any color imaginable. I can also make them flash. Last but not least flash to music. I like to keep it cool. My wife wanted to see purple after dinner tonight so I figured I would snap some pictures and risk some abuse. I seldom use them honestly.. Ive had them for six months now and I think Ive used them a half dozen times. I could even make them strobe like a cop colors if I wanted to. please dont flame me. This is something Ive wanted to do since I was a kid.

How do you control the lights?

You won't get pulled over for those lights? Lots of states have made it illegal to illuminate lighting on cars that are close to blue in hue. I mean no disrespect, but hover lights are so ricer. What's next, a gigantic wing and the car lowered to 1" off the ground with bouncing suspension?
I dont know what means but thats MY WIFE

I was expecting that. I just think its cool. My Irish ☘️ blood is not into ricer.but I like it and again I think its cool. i drove right by the cops in my town without an problem. Btw I wouldnt mind lowering my car an inch off the ground. No bouncing though. I dont even go on the rides at a amusement park. Gives me a headache. If I had the blue lights on flashing that might get there attention. Rice or not its my car and me and the wife like them. Like I said me and the wife like them.
hard pass
"MY WIFE AND I" don't care for those lights, but it is your car so I do whatever you want that makes you happy...even if it includes poor grammar just kidding
Looks right.....if it was on some Ricer.

Thank you!
The knotted panties here crack me up. Not necessarily my cup of tea Brian, but car looks good and if the mod makes you happy///F the others. Enjoy your ride.
I do love the script and rear bumper. Nice looking car. I noticed the rims are not silver. Did you have painted or that one of those paints you can peel off? They look great. I ask because I am going to paint my rims and try the plastic peel paints first, so curious about them. Also, I applaud the guys that make their cars a bit different. For us guys that are not racers but just enjoy going to gatherings to talk cars, it is refreshing to see something different than the regular stock form. It certainly spices up the car shows which I appreciate.

From your wife's expression I can really tell she likes the purple hover lights. You got me there buddy.
Red would be great at night tied in with the brake lights.
I like lights too...
Ghetto fabulous!
The lights compliment the font of the Carrera script.
Whatever floats your boat. Its a fun car - have fun with it.

When you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh?

Not my jam, but if you dig it, rawk it hard -- and enjoy the modding, i for one am all about making a car "your's." You never cease to amuse me sir!
I think you should never modify a 911. It should remain exactly as it came from the factory. Ha! I like the lights. Reminds me of cars we used to cruise with (and race against) back in the 80s.

BAM you nailed it and you know where Im coming from. Cruising down the road listening to some deep purple. Still releases adrenaline. These younger guys think its a ricer/Latin thing and no offense there because some of those cars are cool to see as well. Im from the very late 70s and through the 89s when I graduated in 1985. how about some red and yellow lights flickering while listening to some early AC/DC? Ah whos that?

I knew his mother. Crazy woman.
Man I thought this was gonna be a post about the headlights!
Needs spinner hubcaps
Did you get the calipers painted red or switch them out? BTW Not my style (I hate attention) but it does look cool!
Brian, what ever happened to all the CF parts you where refinishing, how'd that turn out?
Man this place is nothing but negative comments with the exception of some of a couple of guys from the 70s. I just dont get it. If you have nothing decent to say then just back off. I like the lights and wanted to share them. For those who lurk that like them thanks. For those who didnt well you have a right to your opinion. Do you guys own cars or do you pretend to? I am sensing a lot of that here on this forum.

Fair enough I think thats good advice. I learned one thing about this forum. It is not a friendly place. Better to just move on. Im sure this has happened a lot.🤔
Quotes source post: 16187714
your car looks good and all, but you're not exactly stretching the limits of creativity there, bud
Quotes source post: 16194297
Just let it roll off you man! I've been on here since 2001 . I stopped posting for years because I posted something others didn't like. Recently was banned for a week and was going to swear the place off. Opinions are like a holes everybody has one. Lots of us get ripped on for headlight covers!
Happy Wife = Happy Life, END OF STORY!!! I have 36+ years experience to back this up. Next time youre flying down the road, sync the lights to Dark Side of the Moon for me.

Be glad you don't work in the research/academic world where everything you say and do is scrutinized to death. Best advice is to live you life to the fullest and enjoy your creations regardless if the community likes it or not. Never discourage diversity of opinion as long as it is not harassment or slander.

Yeah nice rhyming saying but not always true. My wife was happy unfortunately I was not. She loved our life but I did not. Divorced after 24 years. I'm very happy now!
Quotes source post: 16194297
The internet? Yeah man.
Quotes source post: 16194297
so wait, people who don't like your neon underbody lights don't own cars and are pretending? You posted on a public forum, got a mixed response to a mod that you clearly know is not for everyone, and then make the statement that those who don't like them must be pretending to own these cars. Given the general porsche demographic, it should not really surprise you that underbody lights may not be popular. if the quite frankly pretty reasonable comments in this thread bothered you, perhaps the internet is not for you.
Quotes source post: 16194297
I honestly thing that RL is getting a lot better in terms of respectful posting. It used to be brutal, but now I think it's mostly constructive with only a few rare outlier posts every once in a while. I don't see anything unconstructively negative in this thread. If you post any kind of mod, you will get people who like it and those who don't. Normally it's beneficial to hear from both sides, but this is such a fun and frivolous non-serious topic that maybe the negative isn't as constructive as it normally would be -- but virtually all of the negative comments seem respectful to me.
Quotes source post: 16197686
Totally agree! Brian just has thin skin and can't understand why others don't always like what he likes...Most of his threads end up in the same way, he gets upset over a negative comment and get all pissy over it.
Quotes source post: 16187103
I've done the plastidip route, go for it! also if you can grab some vinyl to do the wheel caps it will make the finished product look a lot better
Quotes source post: 16197868
I'm kind of glad that Brian raises the issues though. In one of his other threads -- I think black wheels thread IIRC -- I felt that discussion helped move the forum to be more civil. Once you're in that mindset where you've experienced an abusive thread/forum, it makes you overly sensitive and it's not easy to recognize when things have actually improved (because, in your head, you are certain it will never get better ). In my view, discussions on forums should roughly mirror real-world face-to-face conversations. That's the standard I try to hold myself to anyway. It wasn't long ago that people would blurt out crap they would never say in a face-to-face conversation. I think that has changed.
I try to restrict my comments to compliments or to walking away in silence - unless someone specifically asks for opinions. This hasn't always been the case, but that's my goal.
Interesting thread. Any time someone modifies their car in a way that's outside the typical modifications seen on the forums, there are emotional responses posted. Personally, I don't give two sh*ts what another person does to their car. If you like it, then go for it. That said, often times people who make unusual modifications act surprised when others react negatively to what they've done. This seems silly to me. It's a bit like having your hair styled in a purple mohawk while working somewhere that's very conservative, then asking people not to judge you, and then acting surprised when they stare at you or say something. If you decide to step outside of the accepted norms in your peer group, then you will be judged. This is simply human nature. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't do what you want, or that what you're doing is wrong, or that people have a right to be disrespectful. It's just different from what people expect to see. You can't present something that's way outside of what people are used to seeing, and then expect them all to like it or to remain quiet about it.
Yes Young911, agree. I am trying to find decals that are clear with blacks stripes. No luck so far. I have a friend looking into making if possible. I guess I should have looked before I painted.

I respectfully disagree and that's the beauty of forums especially ones that protect privacy. People in face-to-face discussions don't always feel comfortable to offer strong opinions because of the threat of backlash or being reprimanded. Fortunately, in my world, people are taught to challenge thought and processes. The beauty of academia. Life long learning. We push each other like a coach in weight training. But we do it tactfully without being threatening or demeaning.
If I wouldn't say it face to face, I am not typing it period. Disagreeing is fine but being a d#ck is another thing. Just my opinion.
I'm thinking of getting a GT2 wing on my C4S........only because I-Me-My-self think it looks great. I know some will disagree with the move....but I'm not putting it on for anyone else but myself. In my opinion the more cars out there that I think are distasteful make my car stand out even more.
Do I like it? Not that much. Am I from the 70s: check. Did I care to comment? Not really. Whats the big deal? Brian likes it, his wife likes it, and its his car. Rock on! Im amassing parts to mod my 996. You may hate it, but I will probably enjoy the heck out of it. Will I share it? Probably. Will I freak out if someone hates it or says something negative? I sure hope not. To each their own.

agree with Argeo. the anonymity of the internet makes it much easier to be rude, disrespectful etc. I unfortunately have to include myself in that category sometimes. IMO the far more common scenario on this (or ANY) forum is posters making rude or derogatory remarks @Brian996 it's not really my style of customization, but the lighting effect on the ground is certainly cool. I've seen lifted trucks around here with LED lights inside the wheel wells. that's pretty cool

I get what your saying,, but Academia is not the norm. Not everybody takes certain types of comments as discussion.. Some types of comments are off limits. The purveyor of the poor choice in words sometimes finds the cost higher than they might be prepared for. They think the internet protects them. I've tracked a couple folks down when it suited me, Just to see the look on their face.. Priceless..
